HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Head coach Dave Bezold has hired Ethan Faulkner as assistant coach. Faulkner, who played for Bezold as a guard from 2009-13, served as a student assistant for the team last season.
“I am extremely excited to bring Ethan back to NKU as an assistant coach,” stated Bezold. “He was the starting point guard for all 27 games during our first year as a Division I program and was instrumental in our success. It may be cliché to say that Ethan was a coach on the floor, but it is entirely true. His knowledge of the program and our philosophies are going to allow him to make an immediate impact as an assistant.”
“I’m honored and humbled that Coach Bezold has displayed enough confidence in me to hire me as an assistant coach,” said Faulkner. “I’m extremely excited to be back at this great institution and play a small part in helping our student-athletes and men’s basketball program reach its potential in Division I athletics.”
Over his four-year career, Faulkner scored 728 points in 117 games played. He also left his mark in NKU’s annals, dishing out the 10th-most assists all-time (350) and registered the 11th-best free-throw percentage (.806).
In NKU’s first season as a Division I program in 2012-13, Faulkner poured in 179 points, which included eight double-digit scoring performances, and delivered 89 assists. He closed NKU’s DII era during the 2011-12 campaign with 300 points, 130 assists and a spot on the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Second Team. In NKU’s NCAA Tournament game against Findlay, Faulkner poured in a career-best 24 points.
