WASHINGTON -GW men’s basketball is set to begin a home-and-home series with Seton Hall beginning with a trip to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014.
“After a successful Thanksgiving trip to California for the Wooden Legacylast season, it will be great to play and celebrate the holiday close to so many of our students, alumni and fans in New York and New Jersey,” said GW Coach Mike Lonergan, who led the Colonials to the second-most wins (24) in program history and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2013-14. “With its Big East Championship run last season, Seton Hall proved it’s a program on the rise and our meetings the next two seasons will be important for building our postseason résumé.”
The news marks the fifth home-and-home series announcement for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons for GW featuring two opponents from both the Big Ten (Penn State, Rutgers) and Big East (Seton Hall, DePaul) as well as the ACC (Virginia). The Cavaliers, Nittany Lions, Scarlet Knights and Pirates will all visit the Charles E. Smith Center during the 2015-16 season.
The Nov. 29 meeting between GW and SHU will mark the fifth all-time dating back to 1946-47 and the first since the Colonials earned their lone win in the series with a 72-63 triumph in the 1999 BB&T Classic at Verizon Center.
Seton Hall is coming off a 2013-14 season in which it finished 17-17 overall, 10-8 at home in the Prudential Center and reached the Big East Championship semifinals. The Pirates are expected to return four of their top seven scorers while also adding a heralded six-player recruiting class for 2014-15.
