CINCINNATI — Xavier University and Auburn University have agreed to a men’s basketball series that will begin in Auburn, Alabama, this season. Auburn, under the direction of new head coach Bruce Pearl, will return the game at Cintas Center in the 2015-16 season.
Xavier also announced the additions of Murray State and IUPUI to the 2014-15 home non-conference schedule. Murray State finished 23-11 this past season, including 13-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference, and went on to win the championship of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.
Xavier previously announced a non-conference home game with Florida Gulf Coast and road games at Missouri and at Cincinnati. The remainder of the non-conference schedule should be announced later this month.
Xavier leads the series with Auburn 4-3, including a win at Auburn in the 2007-08 season and a win at Cintas Center in the 2008-09 season. Xavier last faced a Pearl-coached team in the 2007-08 season when then-No. 12 Tennessee defeated XU 82-75 at Cintas Center.
Xavier leads the series with Murray State 3-0, although the two teams have not met since the 1954-55 season. Murray State has enjoyed some postseason success in recent years. Three times the Racers have advanced in the tournament, most recently in 2012 with a win over Colorado State. In 2010, the Racers beat Vanderbilt and lost to eventual runner-up Butler in the second round.
XU leads the series with IUPUI 4-0, including a victory in the 1994-95 season at Cintas Center.
