The Rochester Red Wings started their nine-game road trip in style Tuesday night with a 5-2 come-from-behind win over the Charlotte Knights at brand-new BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte, NC.

The Wings have now won 16 of their last 21 – including four of their last five on the road – since a season-high 8-game losing streak in early May. Rochester hasn’t lost two straight since May 12.

Deibinson Romero paced the Wings offense picking up a pair of hits – including a game-tying home run in the 6th inning and the go-ahead RBI single in the 8th. Romero finished with three RBI on the night.

Eric Farris and James Beresford – the Wings 1-2 hitters in the lineup – set the table for Romero as each collected two hits and a double.

The Red Wings (32-25) received yet another strong start from Logan Darnell. The Wings southpaw allowed just two runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings. He’s now allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his last 16 starts at the Triple-A level with Rochester.

Both of Charlotte’s runs came via the home run as the Knights entered the night with an IL-best 53 homers on the season.

Andy Wilkins’ 10th of the season in the 4th inning off Darnell tied the game and Marcus Semien’s first at the Triple-A level this year in the 5th inning staked Charlotte to a 2-1 lead.

Romero evened the score an inning later with a two-out solo shot off Knights starter Tommy Hanson. The home run was Romero’s fourth of the season and first away from Frontier Field.

A.J. Achter (2-2) earned the win tossing 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief behind Darnell. Achter entered with a runner on second and one out in the 7th and induced a pair of ground ball outs to escape the jam and keep the game tied. The second-year right-hander has now stranded all 12 runners he has inherited this season.

Ryan Pressly worked a perfect ninth inning to nail down his third save of the season. Rochester is now 9-for-9 in save chances over the last 19 games after beginning the season just 6-for-11 in save opportunities.

The Wings’ three-run eighth began with back-to-back doubles from Farris and Beresford that put runners on second and third with no outs. Romero went the other way with a 1-0 pitch from reliever Frank De Los Santos, shooting a single into right scoring Farris with the eventual game-winning run.

After an error scored Beresford, Chris Colabello laced an RBI single to center that gave Rochester the 5-2 lead.

Daniel Ortiz – making his Triple-A debut Tuesday after being transferred from New Britain – played left field and went 0-for-4.

The Wings and Knights will play a doubleheader Wednesday night with first pitch of Game One scheduled for 6:05 p.m. LHP Kris Johnson (5-2, 1.83) will go for the Wings in the opener and LHP Scott Diamond (2-6, 7.51) gets the start in the nightcap.

WINGS THINGS: Tuesday’s win was just Rochester’s second of the season when trailing after 8 innings (2-19) and their 10th comeback win of the season…The Wings are now 26-8 when scoring first this season…The Wings have now won six straight series openers.
