“He’s gonna go Jimmy Baron on ’em.”
There’s a call you don’t hear every night…at least not outside The Ryan Center.
You might expect the “Jimmy Baron” reference during a Chris DiSano rundown of Rhode Island Rams’ highlights on Cox Sports. But during a Vermont-Duke game?
Tom Hart pulled out that call yesterday, and one has to question if it was warranted.
Of course, Hart was referring to the night at Cameron Indoor Stadium when Jimmy Baron hit 8-of-10 from behind the arc. URI came within a whisper of then #8 Duke falling 82-79.
Last night Vermont’s Hector Harold scored 16 second-half points in the Catamounts’ 91-90 loss.
But Jimmy Baron-like?
Harold hit back-to-back threes. He finished 2-of-3 from long range for the night.
There still is a big difference between two and eight? Right?
Vermont as a team hit four treys on the night. Four!
Is it because he is forward? Is it because he was 1-of-5 behind the arc for the season?
Yes, Duke pulled a Houdini act with what appeared to be some help. How else does one explain the escape made possible by the free throws Rodney Hood received in the final ten seconds?
No hiding that Vermont had their way going off the dribble.
Safe to say Coach K won’t be using recent game footage as a model of perimeter defense. Can one say OLE!
Vermont could have used the recent exploits of Jimmy Baron’s younger brother:
