HORNELL, NY– The Hornell Dodgers squeaked out a 8-7 win over the Rochester Ridgemen on Monday night. The Dodgers used a six run second inning to take the lead and held off a ninth inning Ridgemen rally to seal the victory.
Rochester took advantage of five walks in the first inning and grabbed a 3-0 lead without registering a hit.
Hornell answered back with a run on a sac fly by Dylan Dunn (Hagerstown CC) in the bottom of the 1st and then scored six runs in the 2nd to grab the lead. Chris Roeder (St. John Fisher) had a two-run single, Anthony Renz (Mansfield) had a two RBI double, and Steven Goldstein (Stony Brook) had a sac fly in the inning.
The Ridgemen chipped away at he Dodgers lead with runs in the 4th and 7th inning before the Dodgers added an insurance run in the eighth on a RBI groundout by Dunn.
Rochester took advantage of three more walks in the 9th and got a two run single by Nick Oddo to cut the lead to 8-7. The Ridgemen had the bases loaded when Jason Gray (Webster) induced a fielder’s choice to end the game.
Jake Kenney (Genesee CC) was 2-for-3 while Dunn was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Renz continued to feature a hot bat finishing 2-for-5 with two RBI.
Chris Jansen (St. Joseph’s) entered the game in the 1st inning and tossed 4.1 innings of four hit relief. He allowed just one run while walking one and striking out two. He is now 3-0 on the season. Jeff Beall (Urbana) allowed two hits and one run in three innings of work while Gray got the final three outs to record his third save.
Nick Oddo led the Ridgemen with a 2-for-4, three RBI day. Rochester collected nine walks but stranded eight runners.
The Dodgers have now won seven of their last nine and finish the season series vs. the Ridgemen with a 3-1 mark.
Hornell has two days off before starting a four-game series with the Geneva Red Wings. The first two games of the series will be played Thursday and Friday at McDonough Park while games three and four will be at Maple City Park on Saturday and Sunday (both games starting at 7 p.m.).
