HORNELL, NY — The Rochester Ridgemen collected five runs on five hits in the fifth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit on their way to a 6-2 victory over the Hornell Dodgers in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Maple City Park, Sunday night.
The Dodgers are now 7-8 on the year while the Ridgemen are 4-10.
The Dodgers struck first with two runs in the 3rd inning. Sean McCracken (Southern Nevada) and Anthony Renz (Mansfield) collected back-to-back RBI singles to put the Dodgers in front.
Rochester had sent the minimum 12 batters to the plate through the first four innings but 10 Ridgemen marched to the plate in the fifth. Rochester collected five hits and five runs to take the lead.
The Dodgers had plenty of chances the rest of the way, but the Ridgemen pitchers kept Hornell off the board and stranded 11 runners.
Joshua Davis (Whitworth) hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth to add an insurance run.
KC Simmons (Covenant) was 3-for-4 with a RBI to lead Rochester while Taylor Empkey (Eastfield) was 2-for-5 with an RBI and Russell Colgan (Northern Oklahoma Coll Enid)was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Timothy Knesnik (SUNY Stony Brook)earned the win with 6.1 innings of work. He allowed six hits and two earned runs while walking one and striking out eight. John Patrick Kinney (Lindenwood) got the final six outs to earn the save. He walked two and struck out three.
Chris Roeder (St. John Fisher) was 2 for 3 on the day while Renz was 2 for 5 with a RBI. Jeff Beall (Urbana) tossed 2.2 innings of hitless relief to keep the Dodgers in the game.
The Dodgers and Ridgemen complete their two-game set on Monday when they face off at Maple City Park at 7 p.m. The Dodgers lead the season series 2-1.
