ROCHESTER, NY – One is a big reason why his team is within a game of first. The other did everything he could to keep his team out of last place.
Two players from teams at opposite ends of the New York Collegiate Baseball League standings nab this week’s individual honors.
Bobby Twitty (Niagara/ St. Leo) is this week’s Hitter of the Week. Patrick Kinney (Rochester/Lindenwood) took Pitcher of the Week honors.
Twitty grabbed a pair of Player of the Day nods hitting .454 for the week and leading the Niagara to 5-3 mark. The St. Petersburg, Florida native connected for four home runs including a grand slam in the night cap of yesterday’s doubleheader with the Wellsville Nitros. Twitty scored six runs, drove in12 and has a seven-game hitting streak.
Kinney has made just one start on the mound this year, and the right-hander was close to flawless. Facing one of the league’s top offenses in the Wellsville Nitros, Kinney hurled seven shutout innings surrendering just three hits and zero runs. The Nitros came into the game averaging eight runs per contest.
