Friday brought plenty of eye-brow-raising decisions.
There are times to be compared to Michael Jordan. And there are times to not be compared to Michael Jordan.
Elijah Johnson passed up a layup to make a pass for an off balance 3 pointer. Worst basketball decision made since Jordan picked Kwame.

Yeah, Elijah Johnson is going to have to wear that one for awhile. It’s not often that a player chooses to give up an open take to the basket and trade it for an off-balance three. Not to mention that player’s team is trailing by two in the final seconds of an elimination game. And it’s not as if Johnson wasn’t looking for redemption for a missed free throw late in the game, two late turnovers and a flagrant 1.
Johnson’s coach, Bill Self, gains a strange benefit from his player’s ill decision. At least critics will have something else with which to focus their venom as opposed to Self’s choice to NOT foul Trey Burke BEFORE he got within a sniff of the three-point arc at the end of regulation.
Still a head-scratcher how Self’s 2008 team won the national title. His squads always seem to figure out a way to unravel at the worst times.
Not as pivotal of a decision, but Clark Kellogg’s choice to support this call is a mind-eraser.
“From that angle it’s difficult to tell.” Really? Which angle is that? Did the raised court at Lucas Oil Stadium keep Clark from checking the monitor? At least the zebra can fall back on NOT having instant replay.
All these decisions pale in comparison to the most-recent move by Jerra Jones and the Dallas Cowboys. Talk about looking to continue mediocrity. The Cowpokes have how many Super Bowl rings? Hall-of-Famers? And Jones makes Tony Romo the highest paid ‘Poke of all time. Click here to get a better idea of Romo’s Lone Star legacy. How ’bout dem Cowboys? At least Elijah and Self didn’t commit themselves to 100+M over five years. Heavy is that weight.
From this NY Giants fan: Thank you.
Doug Gottlieb can rest easy. His gaffe should go by the wayside.
Good decisions. UB hires Bobby Hurley. Funny how much Duke hate exists, but hire a Duke guy and enthusiasm is growing in Amherst, New York.
Brad Stevens opts to stay at Hinkle. A collective Whew! heard from Indianapolis.
Shaka Smart signs extension with VCU. You don’t want to go to war with the Rams.
Interesting to see that Shaka Smart is more interested in getting #VCU to improve the program with investments, not his salary
