Jones, Graham and Christon grab weekly awards
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Butler sophomore Roosevelt Jones and VCU sophomore Treveon Graham its men’s basketball Co-Players of the Week and Xavier freshman Semaj Christon its Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday for games played during the week of Jan. 14-20.
Jones helped lead Butler to a pair of wins, including a nationally-televised victory over No. 8 Gonzaga. The 6-4 forward led the Bulldogs with 20 points, including securing a crucial steal and nailing the game-winner at the buzzer versus Gonzaga. He scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half to lift Butler to its third Top 10 win this season. The O’ Fallon, Illinois native added five rebounds, four assists, one blocked shot and one steal in the win. Three days earlier, Jones recorded his second double-double of the season, while helping Butler to a conference victory over Richmond. He finished with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while adding four assists and three steals. The 12 rebounds matched his career-high. It was Jones’ second Player of the Week award this season.
Graham averaged 22.5 points per game in a pair of Atlantic 10 wins for the Rams, including a critical overtime victory against Saint Joseph’s. A Temple Hills, Md., native, he scored 25 points and had seven rebounds versus the Hawks, tallying four of VCU’s first six overtime points on a four-point play. He finished 10-of-17 (.588) from the field and 4-of-7 (.571) from 3-point range in the win. Graham then scored 16 points in the first 12 minutes of win over Duquesne to help the Rams finish the half on a 31-6 run and ultimately put the game away. His 20 points at Duquesne came in just 21 minutes of play off of 7-of-14 (.500) shooting and 5-of-9 (.556) from beyond the arc. It marked the 12th straight game he has scored in double figures.

Xavier outlasts @BonniesMBB behind late-game shot
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Semaj Christon’s driving basket with 5.1 seconds remaining provided the winning points for Xavier as the Musketeers outlasted the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team, 66-64, in a tightly-contested rematch from last year’s Atlantic 10 Championship game Wednesday night in front of a national TV audience at the Reilly Center.

But, even though the players have changed, one thing never does for Xavier — their heart. Across their chest is the name of a school that has reached seven straight NCAA Tournaments and reached the Sweet 16 in four of the last five seasons.
VCU rolls to 13th straight
RICHMOND, VA — VCU rolled to its 13th straight win, using a 28-4 run in the first half to put the game away early. Junior Rob Brandenberg and sophomore Treveon Grahamcombined for 42 points to lead the Rams to the 90-63 victory over the Dukes. VCU has now won 12 of its past 13 true road games dating back to last January. The win gave Head Coach Shaka Smart his 100th career victory, making him just the 12th coach in Division I history to win 100 games in his first four seasons.
La Salle edges Dayton
PHILADELPHIA – La Salle men’s basketball edged Dayton 72-70 in a nailbiter on Wednesday evening at Tom Gola Arena. Ramon Galloway led all scorers with 18 points (6-10 FG, 2-5 3PT, 4-4 FT) and added five assists and four steals to his line.
Mitchell, Ellis combine for 50 fall to URI
ST. LOUIS – Kwamain Mitchell scored a game-high and team-season-high 29 points and Cody Ellis tallied a career-high 21, but Rhode Island rallied late in overtime and defeated Saint Louis 82-80 Saturday night in an Atlantic 10 Conference game at Chaifetz Arena.
Brothers’ record night leads Spiders past Charlotte
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Senior Darien Brothers tied the school record for three-pointers (8) and scored a career-high 39 points as Richmond defeated Charlotte 81-61 Saturday in front of 8,321 fans in the Robins Center.

CINCINNATI – The Xavier men’s basketball team captured its fourth consecutive win with a 70-63 victory over the La Salle University Explorers Saturday afternoon at Cintas Center. Freshman Semaj Christon had a game-high 18 points and has scored in double figures in five consecutive games.
Bench leads 49ers past Fordham
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Behind the double-figure scoring of three players off the bench, the Charlotte 49ers (15-2, A-10: 3-0) gutted out a 74-68 win over Fordham (5-13, A-10: 1-2) in an Atlantic 10 contest in Halton Arena.

JuniorJuvonte Reddic pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds to go with 15 points for his 10th career double-double.
