ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The month of January brings three of the Atlantic 10’s top men’s basketball teams to the Reilly Center for exciting matchups against the reigning conference champion St. Bonaventure Bonnies.
The “January Trifecta” at the Reilly Center begins with a visit from nationally-ranked VCU at 4 p.m. Saturday, continues with a “White Out” game against Xavier on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. and wraps up with a Homecoming meeting against Saint Louis at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26. The VCU and Saint Louis games will be televised by Time Warner Sports, while the game against Xavier will be shown nationally by CBS Sports Network. VCU, under the direction of coach Shaka Smart, will come to the Reilly Center boasting a No. 24 ranking in the USA Today Coaches poll. The Rams have played in either the NCAA Tournament or NIT in seven of the last nine years, and captured national acclaim in 2011 by advancing to the Final Four. New to the Atlantic 10, VCU was picked to finish third in the conference in their inaugural campaign after completing the 2011-12 season with a 29-7 mark and trip to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Fans are encouraged to wear white for the nationally-televised “White Out the RC” game against Xavier. Arrive early, as the first 500 fans to enter the Reilly Center will receive a white St. Bonaventure’ T-shirt compliments of Pizza Hut. The Musketeers are aiming to reach the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time in the last 13 years this season. During the last nine seasons, they have advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament twice (2004 and 2008) and have made three trips to the Sweet 16 (2009, 2010 and 2012). Saint Louis, which is winless in three trips to the Reilly Center since joining the Atlantic 10 in 2005, visits campus for what promises to be a thrilling Homecoming Weekend matinee. The Billikens were tabbed to finish second in the Atlantic 10 standings and appear to be one of the elite conference teams after completing their non-conference schedule with an 11-3 record. SLU produced a 26-8 mark (12-4 in conference) last year and defeated Memphis in the NCAA Tournament before bowing to Michigan State.
