BUFFALO – The Duquesne women’s basketball team won its fourth straight game to improve to 5-1 on Wednesday evening after defeating Buffalo 78-52.
The Dukes, who never trailed in the contest, where led by April Robinson with a career-high 16 points. Wumi Agunbiade scored 14 and pulled down 12 rebounds to record her second straight double-double. Belma Nurkic scored 11 and dished out four assists.
Mackenzie Loesing scored a game-high 19 for the Bulls who fall to 1-6.
The Dukes started off by making four of its first eight shots and by the 11:51 mark of the first half took a 17-7 lead after Ahjah Hall’s 3-pointer. Duquesne was hot from 3-point land in the first half, with six of their 12 field goals coming beyond-the-arc led by Robinson who buried three. She also recorded the rare 4-point play at 7:11 which made the score 24-16. Hall’s layup with 59 seconds remaining gave the Dukes a 12-point lead at 38-26 heading into halftime.
Duquesne opened up the second half with two straight 3-pointers from Nurkic and a jumper from Agunbiade to take a 20-point lead at 46-26 after the first media timeout. The Dukes defense held UB scoreless until the 14:39 mark of the half. Floyd’s basket at 5:31 gave the Dukes a 30-point lead at 69-39. The lead would get as high as 31 points with 4:08 remaining.
In addition to scoring a season-high 78 points, DU finished the game with a season-best 11 3-pointers and 52 rebounds.
The Dukes return to Pittsburgh to face cross-town rival Robert Morris on Dec. 2nd. Tipoff at the Sewall Center is at 1:00 p.m.
