November 27, 2012 by Paul Gotham Leave a Comment

NEW YORK —YES Network, the television home of the Yankees, will team with another Bronx institution for game broadcasts in 2012. YES will present six Fordham University men’s home basketball game broadcasts, including three key Atlantic 10 Conference matchups. Five games will emanate from the historic Rose Hill Gymnasium in the Bronx, while the other from the brand-new Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The announcement was made jointly today by Fordham Executive Director of Athletics David Roach, and YES Vice President of Production and Programming Woody Freiman.

Fordham/WFUV alumnus Ryan Ruocco, who also calls YES’ Nets games, will handle the play-by-play, while expert analyst Jim Spanarkel, who works YES’ Nets telecasts alongside Ruocco, will provide color commentary, their fourth season as the primary broadcast team.

The Fordham vs. Manhattan “Battle of the Bronx” begins the broadcast schedule on Thursday night, November 29, at 7:30 PM. Two December matinee pairings feature Fordham vs. Princeton at the Barclays Center on December 15 at 2:30 PM, and a pre-Christmas clash against Siena at Rose Hill on December 23 with a special 12:00 noon tip off.

The trio of Atlantic 10 Conference clashes includes: Duquesne on January 9 at 7:00 PM; University of Massachusetts on January 13 and Rhode Island on January 26, both at 1:00 PM.

“This is an unprecedented broadcast schedule, and we are delighted that YES Network will bring sports fans and alumni in the Metropolitan area and throughout the country five Fordham home games from Rose Hill, and one when we travel to Brooklyn from the spectacular Barclays Center,” said Fordham head men’s basketball coach Tom Pecora. “With such a rich Bronx tradition, YES and Fordham are perfect partners.”

“We are pleased to bring an expanded schedule of Rams basketball to Fordham and basketball fans not only in the New York area, but throughout the country,” Freiman. “Coach Pecora has invigorated the Fordham program with a roster laden with local student-athletes who are playing an exciting, up-beat style of basketball.”
