Counting down the days to tipoff previewing the incoming freshmen of the Atlantic 10. Next up is the St. Louis Billikens.
After a second-place finish in the regular season, the Billikens punched a ticket to the NCAA Tournament. SLU defeated Memphis in the West Regional before falling to Michigan State. Rick Majerus has taken a leave of absence for medical reasons and Jim Crews will guide the Bills. Two freshmen, Keith Carter and Jared Drew join the Billikens.
Keith Carter G Chicago, Ill./Proviso East
Four-year letterwinner at Proviso East High School in Maywood, Ill., a western suburb of Chicago … garnered first-team All-State plaudits from the Associated Press and Chicago Tribune as a senior after the point guard helped Proviso East to a runner-up finish in the 4A state championship … averaged more than 20 points per game and five assists per game his senior year … helped the Pirates to a 32-1 record as a senior … earned All-Conference honors his junior and sophomore seasons … named MVP of the Proviso West Tournament his senior year after averaging more than 17 ppg during the four-game tourney … was the runner-up for Mr. Basketball 2012 in voting conducted by the Chicago Tribune.
Jared Drew F Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral
Played four years at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis … also ran track for two years … All-State selection as a junior and senior … helped Cathedral to a city championship his senior year and a top 10 state ranking as the Fighting Irish finished 20-4 … was the MVP of the city championship after he led Cathedral with 18 points in the tourney’s title game … Eric Gordon All-Star pick … also played for Indiana Elite One.
