ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Battered and bruised the Monroe Community College nine are happy to leave behind the first weekend of the fall season.
After splitting a doubleheader on Friday, the MCC Tribunes fell to the Genesee Community College Cougars 12-5 and 10-0 in WNYAC play at Buckland Park, Monday afternoon.
GCC scored four runs in the fourth inning of the opener to take a commanding lead and never looked back from there.
Monroe answered with three in the bottom of the frame but failed to get any closer.
Brad Kaczka (Pittsford, N.Y./Sutherland) reached base twice and scored twice.
Danny Mendick (Pittsford, N.Y./Mendon) singled and scored.
Cameron Stimpson (Philadelphia, PA/Friends) doubled and came home.
Genesee pushed runs across in four different innings to take the night cap. Shakeel Newton (Christiansted, Virgin Islands) went one-for-four with a walk, RBI and run scored in game two. Newton finished the doubleheader three-for-nine with two RBI and two runs scored.
Mendick went two-for-four with a run scored.
Monroe downed Jamestown Community College 11-1 in the opener of Saturday’s double dip. JCC rallied to win game two, 11-10.
