HORNELL, N.Y. — The Wellsville Nitros rallied from a 2-0 deficit with two runs in the 8th and scored four in the 12th to defeat the Hornell Dodgers 6-2 on Saturday evening. The Dodgers four-game winning streak was snapped and Hornell is now 23-11 on the year.
The Dodgers got on the board first in the fifth innings when Cody Stevenson (Webster) laid down a perfect safety squeeze that plated Chris Roeder (St. John Fisher) who singled earlier in the inning.
In the sixth, Dylan Dunn (Hagerstown CC) made it 2-0 with an RBI single.
The Dodgers had a chance in the seventh to break open the game but Nitro reliever Brandon Terry induced a bases loaded ground out to end the threat. It was the second time that the Dodgers left the bases loaded in the contest.
Ben Gielow (Ouachita Baptist) tossed seven shutout innings for the Dodgers. He allowed just one hit while walking three and striking out four but did not factor in the decision because the Nitros were able to rally in the 8th.
In the eighth, Montana Timmons and Kory Wan had RBI singles to tie the game up.
Neither team could put anything on the board until the 12th inning when Timmons hit a bases clearing double to give the Nitros their first lead of the day. Wellsville added an insurance run and held off a two-out Hornell rally to earn their 14th victory of the season.
Matt Fishman allowed just two hits and struck out four in four innings of relief work. Timmons was three-for-six for four RBI’s.
Roeder led the Dodgers with a three-for-five day while Kevin Johnson (Pittsburgh) and Will Benenson (Franklin & Marshall) was two-for-five.
Hornell hosts third place Olean in a DH (2-7 inning games) on Sunday. First pitch of the day is slated for 4 p.m. at Maple City Park.
