GENEVA, N.Y. — Jon Kemmer (Clarion) led a 14-hit attack as the Olean Oilers secured their hold on second place with a 16-8 victory over the Geneva Twins in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at McDonough Park, Tuesday night.
Kemmer singled and scored in a four-run first as the Oilers grabbed the lead and ran away from there.
Kemmer plated Seth Heck (Tacoma CC) to open the scoring. Brad Rush (St. John Fisher) followed with a three-run home run off Geneva starter, Matt Jimenez (Mercyhurst), and Olean was off to the races.
Jose Alicea (Genesee CC) doubled home Joe Chittester (Clarion) and Pat Welsh (Marist) with two outs in the third, and Olean led 6-0.
Chittester added to the lead in the fourth with a double scoring Brian Dixon (New Orleans).
Kemmer and Olean put the game out of reach in the fifth. The Shippenville, PA native connected on a grand slam bringing home Heck, Dixon, Welsh and driving the lead to 11-0.
Geneva scored five in the sixth.
Stephen Joe (Copiah-Lincoln CC) brought home Brandon Martinez (Kutztown) and Michael Allen (Davenport) to get the Twins on the board. Dillon Hamlin (Seton Hall) plated Joe with a two-bagger of his own. Josh Chinni (Wayland Baptist) capped the inning with home run scoring Hamlin.
But the Oilers scored three in the seventh and two in the ninth to keep a strangle hold on the lead.
Kemmer finished three-of-five with six RBI and four runs scored.
Chittester had three hits in four trips with four RBI and two runs scored.
David Spaeder (Gannon) struck out two and walked three for his fourth win on the season without a loss. Spaeder allowed seven hits and five earned runs.
Zach Mechmer (Medaille) and Mike Scarcello (Univ. of Buffalo) each tossed scoreless stanzas in relief.
Jimenez took the loss.
Chinni had three hits in five trips for the Twins. Joe went two-for-two with two RBI and a run scored.
With the win Olean (19-13) maintains their hold on second place in the NYCBL Western Division. The Oilers host Wellsville (13-21), Wednesday night.
Geneva failed again to reach .500 and falls to 16-18. The Twins host first-place Hornell (21-10) Wednesday evening.
