BOONVILLE, N.Y. — Cody Campbell (Rogers St.) connected on a three-run shot, and Eric Baker (Rogers St.) delivered an RBI single as the Adirondack Trail Blazers came back from four down to take the first of a twin bill, 7-6 with the Syracuse Jr. Chiefs in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at the Robert Smith Sports Complex.
Campbell plated Kenny May (Lincoln U) and brother Colton (Rogers St.) with his league-leading ninth round tripper of the season. Matthew Robinson (Georgia Coll & St. U.) led the inning with a walk. May reached by fielder’s choice before Colton Campbell followed with another base on balls.
Baker brought home Stewart Knight (Daytona St. ) in the sixth of this seven-inning affair.
Sean Badger (Mohawk Valley CC) worked five full for his first win of the season. The southpaw struck out four, walked three and allowed six runs (two earned).
Geoff Soja (Niagara) retired the two batters he faced for his league-high sixth save of the season.
The Jr. Chiefs scored four unearned runs in the first to take a 6-2 lead. Frank Salerno (St. Thomas Aquinas) started the frame with a walk. Tim Locastro (Ithaca) followed with a base hit. Alex Sanchez Jr. (Ave Maria) reached on an error scoring Salerno. Corey Caswell (Ithaca) brought home Locastro with a sacrifice fly.
Ryan Sonberg (Bates) delivered the big hit of the inning with a double scoring Zach Lauricella (St. John’s) and Brian Witkowski (Alvernia).
Jed Lehman (SUNY Binghamton) took the loss allowing two runs in two and two-thirds innings.
John Silvestri (Montclair St.) hurled a complete-game shutout as the Jr. Chiefs took the night cap, 5-0. Silvestri struck out seven and walked one for his first win of the season. Making his first start of the season, the left-hander pitched more innings (7) Friday night than he did in his last three appearances combined.
Salerno singled and scored David Wolak (Elmhurst) in a two-run second, and the Jr. Chiefs had all the runs they needed. Syracuse tacked on three more in the third. David Lostaglio (SUNY New Paltz) cleared the bases with a double as Lauricella, Wolak and Christian Knott (East Stroudsburg) crossed the dish.
The teams played a rare home and away doubleheader to make up for an earlier postponement. Syracuse batted last in the opener with the Trail Blazers getting last cracks in the second game. Seven-inning games were played also because the doubleheader was part of make up.
The Jr. Chiefs (20-7) turn around and play another doubleheader on Saturday when they meet up with city rival the Syracuse Salt Cats (11-18) at Falcon Park.
Adirondack (16-14) hosts Utica (18-12), Saturday night.
