BOONVILLE, N.Y. — A trio of pitchers surrendered four hits as the Adirondack Trail Blazers ended a five-game skid defeating the Sherrill Silversmiths, 2-1 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at the Robert Smith Sports Complex, Saturday night.
Jabin Weaver (East Stroudsburg) struck out six and walked two in three and two-thirds for his first win of the season. The right-hander allowed a lone run in the ninth when he hit leadoff man, Byron Campbell (Maryland Eastern Shore) and gave up a double to the next batter, Wesley Van Boom (Brown).
Ryan Krokos (Youngstown St.) came on and ended the threat by striking out the side with the tying run at third. Krokos allowed a double to Mike Mazzara before settling in.
Matthew Robinson (Georgia Coll & St. U.) started the game with four and a third shutout innings. Robinson made his second appearance on the hill this season. The Hull, GA native has played 15 games in the field with 54 at bats thus far.
Adirondack scratched single runs across in the seventh and eighth.
Alex Simone (W. Alabama) reached with a one-out a single in the seventh. After a walk and fielder’s choice, Simone moved to third. Stewart Knight (Daytona St.) delivered with an RBI for the 1-0. lead.
The Trail Blazers took advantage of two Smittie errors, and Cody Campbell (Rogers St.) came around with the eventual winning run.
Knight went two-for-three with an RBI.
Mazzara drove in the lone Sherrill run with one of his three hits on the day.
Mike Meleski (Broome CC) took the loss.
Adirondack last won on June 27th, a 6-5 triumph over the Geneva Red Wings.
The Trail Blazers (13-12) travel to Geneva (10-14) on Sunday for a 3 p.m. matinee with the Red Wings.
Sherrill hosts the red-hot Utica Brewers at 5 p.m., Sunday. The Brewers bring a seven-game winning streak to the friendly confines of Noyes Park.
