SHERRILL, N.Y. — The Sherrill Silversmiths jumped out to a first inning 3-0 lead and never looked back, defeating the Utica Brewers by a score of 13-3 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Noyes Park.
RBI singles by Wes Van Boom, Mike Mazzara, and Nick Flemister led the way in the opening frame. Sherrill added a run in the third before exploding for five runs in the fifth. Van Boom led the way offensively by going three-for-five with two home runs. Nick Flemister added three hits including a home run while tallying five RBI. The Smitties managed to chase Utica starter Tim Murdick after four and a third innings pitched despite the right-hander striking out 10.
Sherrill’s starting pitcher Tom Dybas picked up his first win of the year by going six innings and allowing three earned runs. Nate Eastman and Baron Roberts combined for three innings of shutout ball from the bullpen.
Utica’s Andrew McNett and Steven Negron hit back-to-back homers off Dybas in the sixth.
Sherrill returns to action tomorrow, July ninth, at home against the Geneva Redwings with first pitch at 5 p.m.
