ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Olean’s Oilers are keeping pace in the Western Division, and the Syracuse Salt Cats have made themselves a playoff contender in the Eastern. Jon Kemmer (Clarion U.) and Sean Williams (Oklahoma Panhandle St. U.) have played big roles helping their teams keep pace.
Kemmer earned the New York Collegiate Baseball League’s Hitter of the Week while Williams nabbed Pitcher-of-the-Week honors.
Kemmer went 12-for-21 in the past week with five extra base hits (three doubles and two home runs) and 11 RBI. His solo shot in the sixth inning of yesterday’s match-up between the west’s top two teams gave the Oilers a 2-0 edge. Olean went on to defeat the Hornell Dodgers 4-2 and inch with a game and a half of first place.
The west’s top clubs met on Friday, and Kemmer did not disappoint. In a losing effort, the Shippenville, PA native went two-for-three with a double, home run, five RBI and a walk. Kemmer has five round trippers on the season. His 33 RBI top the NYCBL – Sherrill’s Byron Campbell (Maryland Eastern Shore) is second 23 runs driven in.
Williams tamed the bats of the Adirondack Trail Blazers. The Wilmington, DE resident hurled eight complete as the Salt Cats took their third in a row over the east’s second-place club. Williams struck out 10, walked two and allowed just four hits and one run for the win.
Syracuse sits two back in the loss column from fourth place in the East.
