HORNELL, N.Y. — In a game that featured 15 runs, 26 hits, 13 walks, and seven errors, the Wellsville Nitros downed the Hornell Dodgers 11-4. The loss snaps the Dodgers five game winning streak and the team is now 13-6 while the Nitros improve to 9-13.
Wellsville scored two unearned runs in the first inning to grab the early lead. The Dodgers tied it up in the third when they took advantage of five Nitro walks. Matt Calhoun (Harding) an Kyle Danford (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) each drew bases loaded walks.
Wellsville regained the lead for good in the fourth when they took advantage of two more Dodger errors to take a 4-2 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Dodgers got another bases loaded walk to Heath Burton (Furman). Next batter Kevin Johnson (Pittsburgh) drove a pitch to deep right center that Montana Timmons was able to track down and controversy ensued. Hornell tried to protest the game but two innings later were told that they had not protested the game.
In the fifth, the Nitros plated four runs to take control of the contest. Chandler Sidwell had an RBI single and Kolin McMillan connected on a three RBI bases clearing double.
The Dodgers loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning with no outs, but winning pitcher Brandon Terry worked out of trouble to keep the score 8-3.
