Adirondack’s Eric Baker (Rogers St.) and Utica’s Miguel Navarro (San Jacinto JC) can be found near the top of the New York Collegiate Baseball League’s charts, and their efforts this past week showed why.
Baker continued his hitting streak to earn Player of the Week. Navarrro helped the Brewers keep pace in the NYCBL’s Eastern Division and grabbed the league’s Pitcher of the Week.
Baker’s three-double performance Thursday night highlighted an eight-hit week which saw the Muskogee, Ohio native run his hitting streak to an even dozen games. Baker had six RBI and scored four runs as the Trail Blazers won four games to run their record to 11-6. His bases loaded single in the ninth inning pushed the tying run across the plate as the Trail Blazers rallied to defeat Utica on Sunday night. Baker ranks third in the NYCBL hitting .451. His four home runs are tied for first while 19 RBI put him in second.
Navarro went 2-0 on the week with 24 strike outs. In 15 innings of work, the San Jacinto, CA native allowed six hits and two runs. Navarro walked just two batters for the week. Navarro is 3-0 on the season, and the Brewers (9-8) are 4-0 in games started by Navarro this season. His 2.00 ERA is tops among pitchers with at least 25 innings of work. Opposing batters are hitting just .172 against Navarro who has a WHIP of .93.
