GENEVA, N.Y. — The Hornell Dodgers scored six runs in the second, five in the seventh, and four in the ninth as they defeated the Geneva Twins 17-9 on Friday night. The Dodgers are the first team in the NYCBL with ten wins and lead the Western Division by a game and a half with a 10-5 mark.
The Dodgers collected 13 hits, all nine starters collected hits, on the day and took advantage of 10 Twin walks and six Twin errors.
Cody Stevenson (Webster) had the big hit in the Dodgers six-run second inning. He connected on a bases clearing double.
With the Twins leading 9-8 in the seventh, the Dodgers took advantage of wild Twin pitching and poor defense. The Dodgers plated five runs with the benefit of only one hit. They took advantage of four errors and four walks to gain back the lead for good.
Hornell put the game out of reach in the ninth with four more runs highlighted by two run singles by Kyle Danford (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) and Chris Roeder (St. John Fisher).
Danford and Will Benenson (Franklin & Marshall) were each two-for-five while Kevin Johnson (Pittsburgh) was two-for-six with three RBI.
Tyler Wilson (Monroe CC) earned his third win of the season with four solid innings of relief work. He allowed just two hits and one earned run while walking one and striking out one. Erik Eck (Wofford) recorded four strikeouts in his 1.2 innings of work to close out the game.
Brandon Martinez and Michael Allen each were 3 for 5 for the Twins. The Twins collected 14 hits on the day (six were double).
Hornell wraps up their four-game road trip on Saturday with a 5 p.m. battle with the Wellsville Nitros.
