BOONVILLE, N.Y. — The Salt Cats headed back to Boonville. This time they had a another victory under their belts thanks to a come from behind win on Monday and were looking to get a winning streak going. Despite getting off to an early lead, the Salt Cats fell again to the first place Trail Blazers, 7-6 in NYCBL action at Robert Smith Sports Complex.
The Trail Blazers struck hard with two outs. The Salt Cats would hold a 3-0 lead after two innings when Adirondack got a two out double from Johan Knee and then an RBI single by Gooch Greer, cutting the lead to 3-2.
Greer would find some green in the outfield at Robert S. Sports Complex again with two outs in in the third, an RBI double scoring Kenny May, tying the game at 3-3.
The Salt Cats would mount a comeback and take a 6-3 lead. Jake Cintolo (Suffolk University) scored on a throwing error as Dan Fiorito (Manhantanville) stole second and drew the errant throw. Fiorito would also score on a balk in the sixth and Andrew Mederios (Westfield State) would later score in the same inning on a passed ball, giving Syracuse starter, Maso Cotton (Virginia State), a three run lead.
Cintolo collected two hits in the game, reached on a walk, drove in and scored a run.
A two run home run by Knee over the right field wall plated two in the sixth off of Cotton, ending his day.
Cotton went 5.1 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
Desmon Nunn singled and two batters later Stewart Knight doubled him in off of reliever Lou Libertore (Malloy College), what proved to be the winning run, 7-6.
The Salt Cats got RBI single in the first inning from Nick Carlson (Rochester). Two well executed sacrifice bunts in the first two innings led to three early Salt Cat runs.
Libertore, who came in with one on and one out in one run lead, took the loss.
Dylan Griswold was tagged with six runs (five earned) in 5.1 innings of work. Steven Bloodworth got the win, pitching one scoreless inning of relief while Austin Bartley got an eight out save to nail it down.
The Salt Cats will be back in action on Wednesday at Donovan Stadium. They will look to get back on the winning path (2-10 on the year now) as they face the Utica Brewers at 7pm. The Salt Cats starting pitcher in the game is TBA.
