UTICA — After winning by the smallest of margins two nights previous, the Utica Brewers left no doubt Monday night.
Matt Bahnick (Tallahasee CC) paced a 20-hit attack as the Brewers defeated the Sherrill Silversmiths 19-1 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Donovan Stadium.
Bahnick and Eros Modena homered as the Brewers sent nine to the plate in a five-run third. Modena led with his first round-tripper of the year. One out later, Bahnick connected for his second four-bagger of the season.
Utica continued from there. Jesse Pintado (Miami Dade) singled and moved to third on a double by Brian Pruett (Coastal Carolina). Andrew McNett brought home the runs with a base hit and eventually scored on the play when an error was committed on a play at the plate.
The Brew Crew tacked on six more in the fifth. Stephen Dezzi (Tampa) drove home two with a single. Pruett capped the inning with a double scoring Bahnick and Pintado.
Lost in the offensive deluge, Utica starter, Miguel Navarro (Mt. San Jacinto JC), tossed seven shutout innings. The right-hander struck out a dozen, walked one and allowed one hit for his second win of the season.
Jesus Hernandez (Maryland East Shore) took the loss for Sherrill.
Bahnick collected six hits in six trips to the plate with four RBI and four runs scored.
Modena finished four-for-five with two RBI and four runs scored. McNett and Pruett each drove in three.
Utica defeated Sherril 2-1, Saturday night.
Utica improves to 6-5 with the win. The Brewers travel to Syracuse to play the Jr. Chiefs (5-2), Tuesday at 5 p.m. Tim Murdick (Hudson Valley CC) gets the start for Utica. Alex Basso (Manhattanville) takes the ball for the Jr. Chiefs.
Sherrill falls to 5-7. After a day off the Smitties will host Adirondack (7-3) at Noyes Park.
