Joel Belk (Azusa Pacific) tossed nothing but zeroes. Matt Calhoun (Harding) wore out opposing pitchers. The two grabbed the New York Collegiate Baseball League’s honors for the week.
Belk earned Pitcher-of-the-Week as he tossed seven shutout innings when the Rochester Athletes in Action defeated the Wellsville Nitros 12-1, Friday night. Belk struck out four, walked three and allowed just three hits. The right-hander lowered his ERA to 0.75. He is 2-0 on the season with 10 strike outs and five walks in 12 innings of work.
Calhoun had three multi-hit games for the week finishing 11-for-22 on the week including five extra-base hits, eight RBI and 10 runs scored. Calhoun went three-for-four with two doubles and two RBI as the Hornell Dodgers rallied to defeat the Niagara Power 14-5 i the second game of a twinbill. With the win the Dodgers finished the week tied at the top of the Western Division.
