UTICA — Alex Simone (Western Alabama) and Colton Campbell (Rogers State U) paced a 15-hit attack as the Adirondack Trail Blazers snapped a four game losing streak, defeating the Utica Brewers 12-6 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Donovan Stadium.
Utica started the scoring, putting a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning. Daniel De La Calle (Miami Dade College) slammed a two-run double, scoring Blaine Turner ( Three Rivers CC) and Kenny Durling (Misericordia College).
The Brewers made it 3-0 in the bottom half of the third when Stephen Dezzi (University of Tampa) drove home Eros Modena (Indian River State College) with an RBI double. Modena started the Brewers’ half of the inning with a leadoff triple.
Adirondack responded with a pair in the top of the fourth inning to trim the lead to one, 3-2. Cody Campbell (Rogers State U) started the rally drawing a two out walk, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a Bobby McLaughlin (Alderson-Broaddus College) single. McLaughlin crossed the plate with the Trail Blazer’s second run of inning on a clutch single by Stewart Knight (Daytona State College).
After Adirondack tied the game up in the top half of the fifth inning, the home team quickly responded with a pair of runs in their half of the inning. Brian Pruett led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on a balk and scored on a RBI single from Matt Bahnick. Durling’s two out single plated Bahnick, giving the Brewers a 5-3 lead. It would be their last lead in the game.
The Trail Blazers tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh and in the top of eighth inning the visitors scored 5 runs to take a commanding 10-5 lead. As part of the 8th inning rally, Simone drove in a pair of runs and added a two run home run in the ninth.
Simone led all hitters with five hits in six plate falling a tripe shy of the cycle. The Syracuse, NY native drove in six runs on the game.
Ian Tresser (Fairfield U) worked an inning and two thirds of scoreless relief to pick up the win for the visitors.
David Sharpe (Broward College) struck out six, walked one and surrendered eight hits and three runs in a no-decision for the Brewers.
Adirondack (5-2) travels to Geneva(3-1) next on June 15th. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Utica (4-4) makes a quick drive up the New York State Thruway for a 7 p.m. tilt with the Syracuse Junior Chiefs (2-2).
