HORNELL — The Dodgers scored runs in each of the first four innings en route to a 9-3 victory over the Niagara Power on Monday.  The win snaps a two-game slide and improves the Dodgers to 4-2 on the season while the Power are 1-3.

Matt Calhoun (Harding) got the Dodgers on the board in the first with a long sac fly.  It was the fifth time in six games that Hornell has scored in the first inning.

Heath Burton (Furman) connected on a two-run double to add to the lead in the 2nd.  Will Benenson (Franklin & Marshall) singled home a run in the third and scored on a throwing error later in the inning.

The Power got on the board with two in the fourth, but the Dodgers put the game out of reach with four in the bottom of the inning.  Cody Stevenson (Webster) had a RBI single and Calhoun hit a two-run double.  Calhoun scored the final run of the game when he stole home on a stop and steal play.

Nick Boyd (Central Connecticut) was solid in five innings of work.  He allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out five to improve to 2-0 on the year.  Aaron Benton (St. John Fisher) tossed two solid one-hit innings, Steven Dooley (Webster) struck out two in the 8th, and Kevin Johnson (U of Pittsburgh) struck out two in the final frame to close out the game.

Calhoun finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, Kyle Danford (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) was 2-for-5, and Burton was 1-for-2 with two RBI.  The Dodgers took advantage of eight Power walks and stole six bases.

Shakeel Newton was 2-for-3 for the Power.

The Dodgers have Tuesday off before hosting the first of back-to-back Kid’s Day games.  On Wednesday, the team welcomes Alfred-Almond, St. Ann’s, and Canaseraga students to the 11 a.m. contest vs. AIA.
