In one of the wildest games played at Maple City Park, the Hornell Dodgers opened up the 2012 home portion of their schedule with a 13-6 victory over the Geneva Twins. The Dodgers improve to 3-0 on the season while the Twins are 1-2.
The Blue & White got on the board in the first inning for the third straight game when Cody Stevenson (Webster) singled, stole second and third, and scored on a wild pitch.
The lead was short lived as Harrison Guiol connected on a grand slam in the second to give the Twins a 4-1 lead. Matt Calhoun (Harding) answered right back with a solo homer and a RBI groundout by Chris Roeder (St. John Fisher).
Geneva added two more runs in the third, but the Dodgers answered right back and loaded the bases with two outs before Luke Feisal (Wofford) sent the first pitch he saw over the fence to give the Dodgers a 7-6 lead.
Geneva looked to have taken back the lead in the fifth when they collected a two-run double, but the batter was called out due to an error in the line-up card.
The Dodgers held the slight 7-6 lead until the sixth when they loaded the bases again, and Kevin Johnson (Pittsburgh) came to the plate. Johnson hit a dribbler to the shortstop for an infield single. After the single three errors were committed allowing Johnson to come all away around to score to make it 11-6.
Geneva threatened to get back in the game in the 8th by loading the bases with one out but Will Birge (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) got out of the jam and the Dodgers added two more insurance runs en route to the victory.
Feisal finished 2-for-3 with four RBI while Calhoun was 2-for-4 with an RBI. The Dodgers benefited from six walks and two hit batsmen.
Tyler Wilson (Monroe CC) came out of the pen and allowed just one hit in 2.2 innings of work to earn the win. Birge struck out four in the final 1.2 innings to earn the save.
The Twins collected 14 hits on the day but stranded 13 runners.
Hornell heads down the road on Friday for a 5 p.m. contest at Wellsville.
