Saint Joseph’s earns NIT bid; Hawks to host Northern Iowa on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball has earned a bid to the National Invitation Tournament and will host Northern Iowa onWednesday, March 14, at Hagan Arena at 7:15 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

 

It will be the Hawks’ first postseason appearance since 2008 and the 10th in head coach Phil Martelli’s 17 seasons.

 

The Hawks are 20-13 on the year and reached the quarterfinals of the 2012 Atlantic 10 Tournament, falling to eventual league champion St. Bonaventure.

 

Northern Iowa went 19-13 on the season and 9-9 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Panthers lost to Illinois State in the MVC Tournament quarterfinals.

 

This will be the 15th NIT appearance for Saint Joseph’s, which owns an overall record of 16-14 in the postseason tournament. The Hawks’ last NIT berth came in 2006, while the 2005 team reached the NIT championship game.
