#3 Dayton (21-8, 12-2) vs. #2 Temple (20-8/13-1)
The Owls and Flyers have met three times in previous A-10 tournament semi final games, with Temple advancing to the championship game twice. But the Flyers upset the Owls last year, by a score of 75-67.
Smitty says
Media Timeout:
Definitely appears that both teams have the adrenalin pumping early on. Dayton is just 3 for 12 from the field, and Temple is just 3 for 8.
Dayton leads 7-6
Smitty says
Early on Temple is all about sharing the rock. 6 field goals/ 5 assists.
Both teams continue to struggle shooting the ball, Temple just a little less.
Temple leads with 11:39 to play in the first half, 14-9.
Smitty says
A 11-2 run by the Flyers.
During the run, Dayton went 2 for 3 from the field and 6 for 7 from the free throw line.
Flyers 20-16
Smitty says
That run has extended to 17-2, thanks to a pair of three balls from the Flyers.
Right now the Dayton bench has scored 13 of the Flyers 26 pts.
Dayton 26-16.
Smitty says
Media Timeout.
Gonna keep harping on this but it is all about the bench right now. Dayton’s bench has scored 17 of their 30 points, and has outscored the Temple bench 17-7.
Smitty says
Shey Peddy was held scoreless until the 2:15 mark of the first half. Since then, she has scored 5 of the Owls’ 29 points. The senior came into the game averaging 17 points a game.
Halftime and Dayton leads Temple 36-29.
Smitty says
Temple came into the game giving up just 55 points per game.
At the half, Dayton has already scored 36.
Casey says
Shey Peddy held scoreless for nearly 18 minutes? Pray tell.
Smitty says
Temple has started the 2nd half with all cylinders firing. 3 for 5 from the field . Dayton turned the ball over twice in the early stages.
That is why we are tied, 38-38.
Smitty says
Casey!!
Dayton has done a great job of forcing the ball out of the Peddy’s hands. Temple is having to rely on the rest of the team to keep them in this game.
Casey says
Zone? Man? Trap? Press?
Smitty says
Straight man.
Patrice Lalor and Andrea Hoover are switching off her and really denying.
That being said, she left alone right in front of us and had a great look . She missed, but Temple got the offensive rebound for the put back.
Smitty says
When Peddy and BJ Williams bring the ball up the floor, I can’t make it to 3 Mississippi.
Smitty says
Dayton just went 2-3 zone for two possessions.
Back to back 3’s by Temple and they are right back in man defense.
We are tied up 49-49.
Smitty says
Temple has 18 field goals and 12 assists.
Something about Temple basketball and sharing the rock.
Smitty says
Dayton is now in the bonus and will shoot free throws the rest of the game.
Considering Temple’s aggressive style on defense, that is going to be a problem the rest of the way.
Flyers lead 54-49.
Smitty says
What a game!!
For each run by a team, the other responds.
After Dayton went up 61-51, it is now Temple with the response. It starts with their defense, led by Shey Peddy.
Smitty says
We have a timeout for everyone to catch their breath, and I mean everyone.
Temple has 5 players that have scored all in double figures.
Only one player has scored off the bench for the Owls. That is Brittany Lewis and she has 17.
63-58 Flyers.
Smitty says
Wow!! Wow!!
The action has been incredible. Temple down one with less than 30 seconds has the chance to take the lead, but Victoria Macaulay missed a layup.
Hoover is fouled by Peddy with just 2.2 seconds to go. 64-63 Dayton.
Smitty says
Hoover hits both free throws.
A halfcourt shot is off and Dayton advances to the A-10 Championship game.
Final 66-63.
Casey says
“When Peddy and BJ Williams bring the ball up the floor, I can’t make it to 3 Mississippi.”
Helmet Sticker!
Casey says
63 points – where does that rank for low output from the Owls this season?
redsoxfan says
Thanks again for this coverage!
Smitty says
Temple has been held for 63 or less 9 times this season, including this game. The Owls are 2-7 in those games
