ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Andrew Nicholson led all scorers with 17 points as the Bonnies cruised past Division II Mansfield 87-61 in an exhibition game at the Reilly Center Friday night.
The junior Mississauga native went 8-of-10 from the floor, rejected four shots and paced four Bonnies in double figures. SBU scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back, leading by as many as 30 in a preseason contest that saw all 14 players log game action.
Sophomore transfer Charlon Kloof hit 5-of-6 shots from the field for 12 points and tied for the team lead with three assists, while classmate Matthew Wright knocked down three triples en route to 11 points. Junior Eric Mosley added 10.
Mosley stepped into the starting point guard spot, joining four returning starters – Michael Davenport, Demitrius Conger, Da’Quan Cook, and Nicholson – as the Bonnies jumped out to a 12-1 lead with their starting five.
Bona’s led 24-6, eight minutes in after back-to-back 3s from Wright. Mosley sparked a 14-3 run with a pair of free throws midway through the first half that yielded a 27-point margin and powered SBU to a 45-23 lead at the half.
Mansfield’s Charles Becoats hit consecutive 3-pointers and Josh Dupuy converted in transition to help cut the Bonnies’ lead to 14 with 14:11 to play in the second half, but SBU responded with a 15-0 run to put the game out of reach. Dupuy led the Mountaineers with 15 points, and Becoats finished with four 3’s for 12 poinits on the night.
St. Bonaventure hosts Cornell to open its season next Friday night at 7 p.m.
