LSU remains supreme, but it is getting crowded at the top. All of the top teams were very impressive this week, and we appear to have at least 4 elite teams in college football. Oddly enough, in the six polls received as of 10:45 Sunday night, Clemson is the only team to appear in the exact same spot on every poll. With the BCS rankings not far off, the PS poll indicates a LSU – Oklahoma national championship. As intriguing as a match up as that would be, any combination of our top 4 teams would create a great showdown.
*If you wouldn’t mind, when submitting your weekly rankings, to simply list the teams 1-15, without any numbers or spaces ahead of them.

What does Kansas State have to do to get some love around here?
Crossword Pete says
Undefeated, aren’t they? Should be #1! Actually, I had them in my top 15 Rey, mostly out of respect to your philosophy. But if ND beats USuC and K State is still my #15, they will drop behind a 2-loss team at that time.
Smitty says
Rey, you are right about K-State. Definitely in need of some love, but I was torn about how to get them in there, especially with Illinois being undefeated. For me despite having a loss, I am convinced that Arkansas should be in there. But Nebraska was about a half from being out of the Top 15 for me.
Rey says
Pete – all I can say is your allegiance is admirable. I stuck to my philisophy and even ranked Houston ahead of all 1-loss teams even though they have played some absolute cream puffs. I agree with Smitty that Arkansas is one of the best 1-win teams out there. I don’t get the love for Oregon at all. They have looked horrible against their past two SEC opponents. We shouldn’t even let them catch a whiff of the BCS.
Crossword Pete says
My ND allegiance isn’t in isolation. Lou Holtz (of course) mentioned them as one of the better teams in the nation at this point, then the BCS preview boys started talking about how ND has reasserted itself into the BCS picture, not for the championship by any means but certainly for another BCS game. Somewhat along those lines someone has posited that ND’s losses in weeks 1 & 2 were fortuitous in that they kept ND out of the national championship talk, where we might have suffered an embarrassing loss. That person can talk to me after Thanksgiving weekend when we see how ND fares against Stanford.
Crossword Pete says
Houston is undefeated?
Rey says
Yes sir. 6-0 with a high powered offense.

Travis says
If (if) No. 6 (in AP and PS rankings) Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma at the end of the season, where does that put them? National Championship?
QB Brandon Weeden threw 5 td’s in less than one half before he was pulled against Kansas in a 70-28 blowout. Heisman? Just asking.

Crossword Pete says
I don’t know Rey. If as you say they have played cream puffs then you can call that offense high-scoring, but high-powered is reserved for offenses that have beat more than cream puff Ds. That’s why the “undefeated” philosophy leaves something to be desired. Poor Houston doesn’t even get to play S Miss, the only other team in the conference who might be a worthy opponent.
Smitty says
And the first coach has fallen. Mike Stoops is out at Arizona. How often do you see a coaching change mid-season at the college ranks?
Smitty says
Travis – I would have to think they would be in the national championship picture if they beat Oklahoma, but some other factors would have to work their way. LSU/Alabama one of them would have to lose, possibly even twice. Boise State would have to lose as well.
Ok State looks really good, but they would need to run the table and get a little help from some friends.
DREW says
The winner of the LSU/Bama game will obviously be the clear cut No.1 assuming they are both still unbeaten then. By the way, they both have a bye week before their matchup with each other. What a game that’s going to be.
If OKState beats Oklahoma, you have to think they’d be #2 behind Bama/LSU winner, right? Im all aboard the Boise bus but they’re not going to be ahead of any BCS unbeaten with possible exception of a Illinois or Georgia Tech?
Im interested to see what happens if Oregon beats Stanford and where that positions them,
Chas says
I agree with Drew. If Oklahoma State runs the table, they’ll have beaten Texas, Baylor and Kansas State, in addition to Oklahoma. Not to mention there’s not a single pushover in their remaining schedule. I think they’d move past Boise St. Wisconsin would be the only team I could see spoiling their chances of a BCS showdown vs. the LSU/Alabama winner.
But, those are a lot of IFs and that outcome is a long ways off.
I wonder how much it hurts Boise State that this is the year they’re getting respect right out of the gate, but their schedule looks a little weaker than usual, especially with TCU losing two games already.
