****Remember, try this without research. Release your inner James Joyce and show us your stream of consciousness as you decipher the answer. Add to that the teachings of Myagi: patience. If you don’t get the answer right away, give your brain a chance to work if for no other reason than to stay in the discussion. You may not have THE answer, but you might prompt another reader by asking the right question.
You don’t know about me without you knowing a little bit about the La Salle Explorers. Actually, that’s probably not true. You might know me. You just might not know that I went to the Philadelphia school. One of my Explorer teammates earned player-of-the-year honors. He already had his WAI. I graduated before he earned that distinction, but we won the N.I.T one year and appeared in the NCAA tournament my senior year. La Salle is one of only 17 schools to have won both the N.I.T. and NCAA tournaments. I went on and played with six different organizations over a ten-year career in the National Basketball Association. One of those teams changed names while I was with them. All those teams and I was only involved in one trade. I went with Terry Davis, Jeff McInnis and Ben Wallace to the Orlando Magic for Isaac Austin. I never played a game with the Magic. I led the league in the 3-pt. percentage one year but never started a game until my final season. Believe it or not, my long range accuracy is ranked top ten all time. Not bad for a kindred spirit of David Byrne. I was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates out of high school, but made my way as free agent in the Association. Yeah, you probably know me, at least if you follow any commentary and analysis about the N.B.A..
Who am I?
Wally says
OK … let’s get this party started. This long range shooter must’ve played for the Washington Bullets/Wizards and is likely a color commentator/analyst for ESPN, TNT or ABC based on the clues. Off to the showers for now ….
Crossword Pete says
“Kindred spirit of David Byrne”? Alas, if only I knew who David Byrne is/was! I seldom watch NBA telecasts (5 min of 3rd qtr last night – who won? Mavs were on a tear when I tuned out), so I have no idea who the analysts are. I do believe Lionel Simmons was the POY teammate at LaSalle. Drafted by Pirates? That should be a major pointer (but not for me – again, alas!)
Crossword Pete says
Is it legal to research David Byrne?
Wally says
Was just listening to Mike & Mike on ESPN radio on the way in to the oriface when they mentioned that Tim Legler would be on in 30 mins to discuss the Heat-Mavs series. I think it’s Tim Legler …. he was a darned good sharpshooter and I know he played for the Bullets/Wizards. I also woulda pegged him as an A10 college player, though I’m not sure about LaSalle. Tim Legler … my final answer. 😉
Crossword Pete says
David Byrne; Talking Heads (sports analysts?) and suspected Asperger’s Syndrome. Therefore, Legler sounds fine to me, especially since I have no better answer. My lack of cable TV is certainly showing on this one.
Crossword Pete says
Lack of cable TV and a radio that does not work in my car.
Casey says
Well done like a T-Bone on the grill.
Tim Legler is the answer.
