Dayton is ranked 76th with 152 total points to lead all schools in the A-10.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Five schools from the Atlantic 10 Conference are ranked in the latest Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) on Thursday, April 7. Dayton leads all schools in the A-10 as the Flyers currently sit 76th with 152.00 total points. Temple (81st, 148.00), Xavier (111th, 100.00), Richmond (121st, 90.00) and Massachusetts (193rd, 25.00) round out the league’s representation in the first winter standings.
A total of 239 schools are ranked in the latest standings with the final Division I winter standings scheduled to be released on Thursday, April 21, 2011.
Dayton, who compiled 100.00 points in the fall, added points in women’s basketball and women’s indoor track and field during the winter season. The Flyers women’s basketball team advanced to the NCAA Tournament, while Mallory Barnes repeated as an All-American at the NCAA Indoor Championships placing sixth in the weight throw competition.
Temple has put together a strong winter campaign scoring points in both men’s and women’s basketball, while placing 13th at the NCAA Fencing Championships to register 48 total points. Junior Alyssa Lomuscio fenced her way to a seventh place finish in foil, earning second team All-America honors to lead the Owls.
Xavier is tied for 111th place after picking up points in both men’s and women’s basketball this winter. The Musketeers finished in a tie for 17th place in the NCAA Women’s Tournament, while the men tied for 33rd place.
The men’s basketball team paced the Spiders this winter making their second Sweet 16 appearance in school history. Richmond defeated Vanderbilt and Morehead State in the NCAA Tournament Second and Third round, respectively, before falling to Kansas in the Regional Semifinal in the San Antonio, Texas. Richmond earned 64 points for its run in the NCAA Tournament and now sits in 121st place with 90.00 total points.
Massachusetts rounds out the field for the A-10 in the latest standings placing in a tie for 193rd place with 25.00 total points. UMass’ points came in the fall after the Minutewomen finished ninth at the NCAA Field Hockey Championships.
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institutions finish in up to 20 sports – 10 women’s and 10 men’s.
