It is that time again. Let’s hear from you readers. We had another week of stellar performances. Pick the ONE (1), UNE, UNO from January 17-23rd that stands out to you, and tell us a story.

Xavier’s Tu Holloway gets my POTW.

The junior point guard registered a career-high 33 points as the Musketeers captured a convincing 85-62 conference win at Richmond. Holloway finished 7 of 15 from the field including 2 of 3 from behind the arc and an eye-popping 17 of 17 from the free throw line. Yes, you read that right. Holloway went 17 of 17 from the charity stripe as the Muskies improved to 7-0 in Atlantic 10 play. Holloway added seven rebounds and five assists with one steal. He is averaging 21.1 points and 5.3 assists per game.

Who gets your POTW?

I’m going to go out on a limb here and vote for myself, because I watched like 30 seconds of the Pro Bowl. And I know you’ll all say it was an accident, which it was, I was changing channels, but I saw the uniforms and thought it was an old USFL game, and I started getting all nostalgic, but then they ran a banner and I knew I’d been cheated, so I moved on.

It’s selfish, I know, but there you go.

Homer call, but I’m going with the Chicago Bulls. They’re currently enjoying a 5 game winning streak and have been “gutting it out” since Derek Rose has been battling stomach ulcers and Joakim Noah hasn’t been able to play for ~2 weeks. I believe they’re now ranked #2 in the Eastern Conference.

While we’re on the Homer theme, I’m going with Talor Battle. He scored 45 points in two Penn State victories this week, including 20 in the second half of Saturday’s victory over Wisconsin, the team’s third straight home win vs. a ranked opponent.

Good call, Chas, but Talor really needs to buy a “y” from Vanna so he can start spelling his name correctly 🙂

I think you follow enough sports, Wally, to know there are many, many players out there with names that are…well, we’ll call it “creatively spelled.” Many of these could otherwise be known as made-up names. I trace the trend back to Anfernee Hardaway.

I’d say spelling Talor without a Y is on the lower end of the name atrocity scale. 🙂

Where’s Smitty?!?! He didn’t even chime in to nominate Bubba Watson for POTW. (Of course, since we know that he’s gonna nominate the latest PGA event winner, he doesn’t actually need to stop by on this one).

But seriously … I miss the big lug … where’s he at??? Did he get a second job bartending at night or something?!?!?

Awww Wally – you missed me?? Gee I missed you too. About as much as the Green Bay Packers miss Brett Farve.. 🙂

I was going to do a Wally special and nominate one person for each sport. I was also going to nominate Thomas Robinson of Kansas and the Jayhawk faithful for the scene on Saturday. Robinson just 2 days after his mother’s death, played a heck of a game with 17 points and 9 rebounds in their win over Kansas State.

But alas, I will stick to my New Year’s resolution and nominate Bubba Watson AND Phil Mickelson for the lefty duel at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Okay, have to go finish snow blowing and get my sleep. Going to test the R11 this week! Gotta go.. voices in my head.

Smitty!!!! You’re safe!!!! Whew … no more worries. Thought we might have to send Casey down to some Mexican prison to try and bail your butt out … or something like that. Welcome back!

Wally – why Mexican? Why not Canadian? Why is your first thought prison?

Chas- I am glad I could ease your mind and reassure you that the world is back in alignment.. 🙂

I don’t know … your fondness for tequila, your tendancy to get lost, your drug habit … pick your poison. Just glad you’re safe and sound 😉
