1. Duke – It’s been Kyrie Irving to the rescue. In fact, how did the frosh NOT get a POTW?
2. Pittsburgh – The Panthers have been prowling through mid-major opponents. Tennessee pays a visit on the 11th.
3. Kansas – The Jayhawks surprisingly struggled with UCLA. Tangle with Memphis tomorrow. Who will get a dose of truth serum?
4. Ohio State – Made Florida State looked rather average. Maybe because the Seminoles are.
5. Michigan State – Looked tough in a loss to top-ranked Duke. Host Syracuse on Tuesday. More truth serum dispensed.
6. Kansas State – Were struggles at Washington State cause for concern?
7. Memphis – Kansas is first ranked opponent of the campaign.
8. UConn – The Huskies are playing with a chip on their collective shoulder.
9. Tennessee – Nothing like a little controversy to galvanize a team.
10. San Diego State – Have a date at Cal, Wednesday.
11. Syracuse – How many of their nine lives has Jim Boeheim’s squad used?
12. Georgetown – Exciting OT victory over Missouri. Travel to Temple, Thursday.
13. Missouri – Only blemish came in overtime. Host Vanderbilt, Wednesday.
14. Notre Dame – Can ND maintain momentum after an eight-day layoff. Travel to Lexington, Wednesday.
15. BYU – Take on Arizona, Saturday.
16. Villanova – A pair of Big 5 traps looming: Penn on Wednesday, LaSalle on Sunday.
17. UNLV – Travel to Louisville on Saturday and not to visit the Porcini Restaurant.
18. Northwestern – Blasted Georgia Tech.
19. Baylor – Clash with Gonzaga coming on Saturday.
20. Illinois – Handled Gonzaga.
21. Kentucky – Losing to an average UNC team at Chapel Hill is not a moral victory.
22. Purdue – Got lucky at Virginia Tech. Travel to Valparaiso on Tuesday. The hits keep coming for the Boilermakers.
23. Florida – Losing to UCF will do nothing positive for the resume. Date with Kansas State on Saturday.
24. Washington – A team from the Pac 10 has to make it. Right?
25. Butler – Some time soon Matt Howard will mature, and the Bulldogs will prove last year was not a fluke.

Next college football season, we should have a Pickin’ Splinters top 25. We vote on it every week, starting with the major contributors and commenters. New folks are welcome to vote too, but their votes don’t count until three consecutive weeks of contributing. Or something like that…
Casey says
That is an OUTSTANDING idea. We should be able to get a plugin that tabulates votes for us.

Holy Touchdown Jesus, Batman! The Irish are up to #14 in the Casey Calcs!!! I hope they justify the lofty rating Wed vs Kentucky. Then they host Gonzaga Sat.
Might be going to the Washington at Texas A&M game Saturday. A&M is scratching to crack the Top 25. If we don’t make that game, we’ll at least be seeing the A&M women play on Sunday. They, too, are very highly ranked … think they lost a close one to Duke the other day. Hoops heaven! 65 miles away and tickets between $5 and $13. Gotta love it.

The Irish haven’t played in a while, so their initial burst of momentum has carried them up the rankings as other teams have fallen.
