Just when you think Notre Dame football couldn’t sink any lower, along comes Navy to put another hole in your submarine. No … they actually blasted it into shreds. This is a new all-time low. It’s one thing to lose a competitive game … quite another to be humiliated in every aspect by a team full of players “not good enough” to be recruited by you. Sorry all you BK fans and blue and gold Kool-Aid drinkers out there, this team from South Bend is truly Notre Lame, Notre Dumb, No Game … really whatever you want to call it. We simply suck at football. It’s really a failure by the entire athletic department. For whatever reason, those employed by the university that are charged with running a first rate football program have failed. Simple as that. The coaches are failing. The players are failing. The trainers are failing. Heck … the waterboys are even subpar.
To the players … I’m sorry, junior and senior classes, but this has to be said: Welcome to Loserville!!! Population: YOU. How embarrassed must YOU be???? Lose to Navy 3 times in 4 years??? How is that EVEN possible??? It’s only possible if YOU are mediocre, if YOU have no pride … which you’ve proven time and time again. Navy just humiliated YOU in front of a national audience. They didn’t beat you … they KILLED you. Where is your pride??? Congratulations … hope you studied a little while on campus because you’ll be needing to seek a real job like the rest of us.
To Brian Kelly and your coaching staff: You better GET A &#$%&#@ CLUE real quick!!! Your honeymoon or grace period was just shortened by a full year. You don’t have 3 years to show results … you now better show something before the 2011 season is over. I’m not calling for your resignation now, but I will be at the end of next season if we see this crap again.
So how does a ND team come off two wins, have the luxury of an academic-free fall break week on campus to prepare for this Navy game, and come out with apparently NO CLUE on how to stop the Navy offense??? An offense we see every year. First half, Navy had 4 possessions and scored 3 TDs. I believe they traveled a total of 240 yards in only about 26 plays. That’s 9-10 yards per play!! I think only 1 was a pass … and oh, yeah, that went for their first TD. After traveling 99 yards. After ND stopped themselves on Navy’s half yard line on 4th and goal.
At the end of the first half, let’s analyze both ND’s decision to pass and the execution of the pass from our own 8 yd line with 1:50 left. OK … I’m done with the analysis. That was REALLY friggin’ STUPID by both the coaching staff and our QB. Oh … and will the defense finally step up and rescue the day?? Not even close. No heart, no clue, no soul, no pride. Nothing.
Okay … halftime is over. Surely we made adjustments. (Shirley … did you make adjustments????) Navy takes the opening kick=off, gets the ball on their 30 and promptly travels 70 yards in about 5 plays for the TD. Oh … and those tricky little middies threw their 2nd pass … it went for 45 yards. Then comes another INT by ND on a poor throw by Crist. Then another Navy drive for a TD with little resistance offered by the Irish. Before ya know it, it’s 35-10 and ND is begging for mercy. 35-10??? Click.
I switched to the Northwestern-Michigan State game. The Wildcats … now there’s a team that gets a lot out of their #72nd ranked recruiting class. Not sure how they fell for another MSU fake field goal … but they did. But they’re kinda like Navy and their overachieving #74th ranked recruiting class. Anyway, Northwestern kinda gagged this game away to MSU in the end. Too bad.
This will be my last post indefinitely that is focused on ND “football” and their #5-#20 recruiting classes. I may pick it up again if/when they EVER become competent. But for now, this “football team” … using that term very loosely … is not worth my attention or effort. Or yours for that matter. We’ll still talk college football … still love the sport … but that obviously does not include this rag tag outfit from South Bend. I just couldn’t be more disgusted. How many Irish fans have said that today???

Hope Auburn beats LSU. Hope Mizzou nips Oklahoma. Way to go Iowa State … first ever win vs Texas, I think. Mack Brown will be taking some heat for another terrible home loss. At least ND fans aren’t suffering alone 🙂
Go Giants … win the NL pennant!
I’m out. Time for a brewski ! And more therapy sessions with Dr Lou. 😉

Wally, how many years did you give Weis to “return to glory” ND football? At least a couple of years, no??
Kelly inherited an absolute pile of garbage. Dayne Crist?? The guy was the third best QB on the field, and that is being generous because I didn’t see much of the 2nd string Navy QB.
Granted the defense was horrible. But why is a sophomore our best defender?? I thought Weis pulled in 5 star recruits all over the place. ND has soft upperclassmen, and that will not change until those guys are gone. The guy in Law School needs to be paying his own freight. Too many guys really have no aspirations of playing professionally. They’ve already made it. Sit back, put in a token effort, and when they graduate, some sucker of an alumnus will offer them a cushy job peddling mortgage backed securities or other pieces of worthless paper for half a mill a year. Why put in any effort?
Kelly needs to start pulling scholarships and putting his guys in now. Weis guys have already shown what they are made of.
Boog says
The good thing about this game is I think it will weed out the losers in this program. I think there are a lot of eager hungry underclassmen just waiting to get in a game and show what they can do. I think Kelly has pretty much had it with the juniors and seniors. I wouldn’t mind seeing Rees get the start against Tulsa. I think it is clear Crist doesn’t have what it takes. There is no sense in trying to get any more out of Crist, especially when he only has a year left. Thank him for his service and move on to Rees.
Kellys Cincy team last year would have beat this team by 30. So what is different about this team and Cincy 09??
Wally says
I’m sorry Boog, but this was the all-time worst suckfest I have ever seen by a Notre Lame “team”. That squad was not prepared to compete in the game today. It’s EVERYONE’S fault … a total organizational failure.
This is what Navy has done this year:
Sep 6 @Maryland L 17-14
Sep 11 Georgia Southern W 13-7
Sep 18 @Louisiana Tech W 37-23
Oct 2 @Air Force L 14-6
Oct 9 @Wake Forest W 28-27
Oct 16 Southern Methodist W 28-21
Oct 23 Notre Dame W 35-17
We have performed the worst against Navy than other team they’ve faced. THE WORST OF 7 teams on Navy’s schedule. Our defense, which was getting praised the last coupla weeks, got TORCHED as if they never looked at one segment of film.
Half a mill??? Where can I get one of those jobs???
Boog says
You work for BP, that would be a pay cut Wally.
I agree it was a pasting, but you have to admit Navy played flawless. Not one single penalty. Both passes in the 1st half were almost miraculous catches. Not one single thing went bad for them this game. I tend to think had ND gone down and scored on the opening drive it would have been a different game. The defense has never been a good match for this kind of offense, it just never has. But we have always had an offense that could keep things close. But with a Div 2 QB and the top 3 recievers out, ND was going to need a few breaks to win this. They simply did not get them. I don’t think this team is really that bad. There are just a few broken pieces that Kelly needs to remove and I think this team will be much improved. I don’t care what coach was coaching this team today, they would not have won.
Wally says
That’s funny, Boog.
A “few” broken pieces?? I guess the entire defense counts as just one thing, huh? Oh … and there’s the QB … that’s a minor issue. Oh, and the entire kick return unit. Oh, but wait … there’s the wimpiest offensive line I’ve ever seen. I’m sure we’ll have all this fixed in no time … like by Thanksgiving.
Boog, why would we expect to compete with the likes of Wake Forest, SMU and Georgia Southern??? I mean, that’s a pretty lofty standard. I mean … to expect to come within 10 points of … should I even utter the words … N … nnn .. Navy. Puhhhhhhhhh …. lease spare me the crap.

Geez, I hate to interrupt this dialogue. I will not parse ND’s performance today. The score speaks for itself. What I will say is that my optimistic, rose-colored view of the progress being made, especially in the past few weeks, was given a harsh setback today. This was a game I believed ND could win…or lose. I felt that the Kelly attitude would result in a win, but a loss would be only too reminiscent of the UnWeis era. Alas, I got the latter. Whether it be personnel or coaching, this loss is not indicative of the progress I had sensed only a week ago. What I also learned today is that ND’s receivers have been the reason for Christ’s sometimes semblance of good quarterbacking. We have fartehr to go then I had thought. Nevertheless…GO IRISH! Beat Golden Hurricane!
Boog says
To me it was obvious. Navy, yes Navy, had the better talent on both sides of the ball. Not only that, they wanted it more than the suburban ND squad. They wanted it a lot more. I think we are seeing just how bad a recruiter CW was. Add to that absolutely no senior leadership. Who are the leaders on this team? A sophomore linebacker? I would have no problem with BK having open tryouts for all spots. Any upperclassmen that does not convincingly win the competition should be shown the door..
So tell me what changed in one year from BK going 12-0 with Cincinati talent and him being currently 4-4 with all the 4 and 5 star talent at ND. What changed in 10 months??
Wally says
I’ve already chewed out the upperclassmen, Boog. I think we’re in violent agreement there. But to come into this game 4-3, on a 2 game win streak, and then to see this team a) not want it enough and b) not know how to do it is ALSO a huge coaching failure. It’s the kids AND the coaches. Navy coulda scored 50 points on us yesterday, but they took their foot off the gas pedal. How is it that ND performed the worst by far of any of Navy’s eight opponents this year???
For the past … I don’t know …. 10 seasons … ND has been absolutely humliated and had their nose rubbed in it twice a season. This was, yet again, another of those … but probably THE MOST egregious one in a very long time. Losing to Syracuse the other season at home was close. At least we were “in the ballgame” that time. Up and down the organization, ND sux. Everyone involved with that team needs to look in the mirror and get their crap together.

Pete —
I don’t know that we’re capable of beating Tulsa. They might run a tricky little pro-style offense. I’m sure we’ll be bumfuzzled out there.
Crossword Pete says
If we play like yesterday, we aren’t capable of beating anybody, even the Cadets of West Point!
Crossword Pete says
I hope yesterday was an isolated blip on the radar screen of ND’s football future!
Russell says
“We outman them by 70 pounds on average up front,” Kelly said. “If you can’t get a foot on the one-half yard line, you get what you deserve.”
Fortunately Arkansas has a temporary “burn-ban” due to no rainfall. I wanted to burn my favorite ND t-shirt that I was wearing during the game. I am so embarrassed! But to quote our GREAT QB and team leader: “The guys are in there, they’re rallying,” he said. “They are a real resilient bunch.” RESILIENT What a nice compliment to a bunch of overweight players Crist.
At least Wally is happy that another “powerhouse” “Boise State” should now get to play in the NC. Here’s to another embarrassing season and hopes for 2011.
Bloodclot Bob says
Kelly just needs his type of player. Not these prima donnas that think they can just show up and win. It takes effort and I think kelly is really surprised at just how inept and lazy these 4 and 5 star players compared to the 2 stars he is used to coaching.
WannaBe says
I was really disappointed with the waterboys play as well 🙂
Seriously, I am glad I missed this game. My and Wally’s 12 year olds showed more heart trying to roller skate than what ND showed hear. I think the comment about ND players not wanting it and cruising to get their degree and fat paycheck (unless your recruited by BP) bears merit.
Loved how Mizzou took on Oklahoma!!!!
