Adam Curynski finished his collegiate career in familiar fashion allowing just two runs in his last sixteen innings of work for the Southern Illinois Salukis.
On May first, the Webster native hurled eight shutout frames versus Missouri Valley Conference rival, Bradley. Curynski took a no-decision as the Braves scored a run in the ninth for the win.
Curynski followed that with a sparkling eight-inning performance against Evansville for his second win of the year.
“I have been getting a good sink on my fast ball,” said Curynski. “Hitters are rolling over on it, and the guys are playing great defense behind me.”
This season, Curynski tossed 81.2 innings for the Salukis striking out 39 and walking 29.
“Adam has been consistent throughout the season and his career,” said third-year pitching coach Tim Dixon. “He’s been the hardest worker I have seen at Southern Illinois.”
Southern Illinois was eliminated from the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. With his college career behind him Curynski will wait and see what the future holds.
When discussing the prospect of Curynski moving on to play professionally, Dixon added, “His character sets him above others. He’s a great senior and plenty of scouts have asked about him. You never know with the Major League draft, but Adam has a chance.
Curynski spent the last three summers pitching for the Webster Yankees in the New York Collegiate Baseball League. The hard-throwing right hander compiled an ERA of 3.36 in 127 innings of work. Curynski struck out 95 and walked 54 while holding opposing hitters to an average of .260. He earned NYCBL Pitcher-of-the-week honors last July when he tossed sixteen consecutive shutout innings.
In 2007 Curynski helped Monroe Community College advance to the National Junior College World Series.
