Some Irish Spring

Fighting Irish fans —

Tired of reading about Barrack Obama’s appearance at ND’s commencement? Hey, I like that our new President has been seen wearing his Chicago White Sox jacket (yea!!!) … but that also shows questionable judgment, given the Southsiders’ putrid offense. Oh … that’s not fair … the Sox won it all in ’05 and most Chicagoans have gone to their grave without ever witnessing a World Series title. So I’ll show some restraint on that topic 🙂

Anyway … I know it’s only May, but this article from College Football News should get many Irish football fans fired up. https://cfn.scout.com/2/865030.html

On paper, it’s not hard to see the light and drink the blue & gold kool aid as ND’s maturing talent meshes with a very manageable schedule in ’09. But as usual, I want to actually SEE IT ON THE FIELD before I buy into the hype. Questions about the competence of this coaching staff still weigh heavily on our minds. I might believe Our Lady’s team has arrived if we’re at least 4-1 after 5 games. And we better at least compete with USC in game 6 … actually, this is THE YEAR to win that game. We’ve got ’em in South Bend, two weeks to prepare, and they’ve lost a lot of talent to the NFL (we used to say that many moons ago). ND better go AT LEAST 9-3 and look good doing it !!!!

Anyway, I hope you’re all having a great spring. It’s downright balmy here in south-central Alaska. Summer starts next week and then we move into fall on June 15 🙂

I was happy to see Greg Paulus sign with Syracuse. I think that is the only school he could have signed with and not catch heat from Duke alum. I bet he’ll be named the starter at the end of spring. A lot of people don’t realize that he would go throw with the Duke football team and has kept his arm in shape. Whether he can take a hit or not will be the key. We know he can take a dunk, but blind sided from a LB is different. Plus, I think with the usually speedy receivers that are at ‘Cuse, he’ll benefit from quick routes being run and be able to scramble in such a spread shotgun offense.

    Good post, Wally.

I’m finishing the dishes. Aunt Bea made a swell dinner tonight.

Got some studying to do later. Big math test coming tomorrow.

I’d say hit the cell, but we don’t have any towers in Mayberry yet.

Geez, I don’t know ANYBODY on the bench anymore! 9-3 is generous Wally. 10-2 is best I’ll give, and if it’s not close vs USC then 11-1 isn’t good enough. Put up or shut up time for Charlie.

    Pete —
I’m not sure how to take your comment … do I understand that you’ll be way ticked off if they’re not at least 10-2? Or do you see 10-2 as overly optimistic?

Ticked off if not at least 10-2, and not happy with 11-1 if USC blows us out. I’m still rankled at the arrogance of Charlie when he got the job; “We’ll never be out-coached”. Well it’s time to walk the walk and not just talk the talk. With the talent he’s got on the roster, if he’s not “out-coached” they should never lose a game. Put up or shut up time.
