A family of four used the recent Spring break to visit with loved ones in Long Island. As part of the trip mom and dad decided to take their eight-year-old daughter and five year-old-son into the Big Apple. They stopped at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Climbing the stairs the children gazed in awe at the gothic facade. Once inside their wonder continued as they admired the architecture.
A greeter approached the family and kindly asked the boy to remove his baseball hat. He proceeded to take off his New York Yankees’ lid, but gave his mother a look of misunderstanding.
Mom told her son, “Honey, I am sorry I should’ve told you to do that before this gentleman did.”
He looked at her again and very seriously said, “Gee, God must be a Red Sox fan!!!”

I am not sure that God is a Red Sox fan, but I know that he likes messing with us from time to time… for instance…
A-Rod is ready to be a Red Sock- wait- no, a Yankee!…
Dave Henderson ending the Angels dreams in ’86 (2 strikes/2 outs homerun)- only to watch Mookie roll one through Buckner’s wickets)…
Fisk homering off the foul pole to win game 6 in ’75 – only to fade away in game 7…
Still not sure if A-Rod would have had it better in Boston… crazy as it sounds, I wouldn’t trade Lowell for A-Rod today… if I were on his team I know that Lowell would have my back- not so sure about A-Rod…

He (capital “H”) is clearly not a Red Sox fan. If He was, He certainly wouldn’t have tortured the Sox and their fans for so long. If He was, surely Bucky would’ve wiffed in that playoff game and Fisk would’ve hit another game winner in Game 7 vs Reds. If He was, certainly Billy Buck fields that slow grounder easily. If He was, then the Bosox would have 20 something rings and the Devil’s team (the NY Steinbrenners) would have but a few, if any.
Nope, I don’t think He is really a fan of any team in particular … too many more important things to focus on. Hunger, cancer, poverty, Iraq, global warming … the list goes on and on. But when He does get a break to oversee sports … every decade to 15 years … we know it when He blesses Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish with a CFB chan’ship. Apparently, He’s been pretty busy for quite awhile with all that other stuff. 🙂
