POTW

Performance Of The Week 8/17 – 8/23

August 24, 2009 by Paul Gotham Leave a Comment

Philadelphia Phillies' second baseman, Eric Bruntlett, found redemption Sunday and earned my POTW. Bruntlett snared Jeff Francouer's line drive and completed an unassisted, walk-off triple play as the Phils defeated the New York Mets, 9-7. Francouer's hit looked like a sure single, but Bruntlett found himself in the right place at the right time foiling the Mets' double … [Read more...] about Performance Of The Week 8/17 – 8/23

Performance Of The Week 8/10-8/16

Another week and we have another great performance by a Boston Red Sox opponent. Last week, the Bronx Bombers earned recognition. The nomination caused some confusion on the Pine. This week, Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers grabs the honors. Verlander struck out eight and walked one in eight shutout innings as the boys from Motown downed the Sox 2-0. The Old … [Read more...] about Performance Of The Week 8/10-8/16

Call it giving credit where credit is due. Call it eating some crow. Call it a comeuppance. Call...it... what... you... want. The Bronx Bombers. The pinstripes. The New York Yankees get my POTW. Take your pick with which aspect of their team gets the honor. Maybe the pitching staff, which held the Red Sox without a run for 31 innings gets the POTW. Maybe it's … [Read more...] about Performance Of The Week 8/3 – 8/9

Performance Of The Week 7/27-8/2

Jacoby Ellsbury grabs my POTW. The Red Sox centerfielder provided a spark that the slumbering Sox needed. Ellsbury went 14-32 for the week with 12 runs scored, 4 RBI, and 4 stolen bases including a home run, and 2 triples to go with 5 base on balls. To top it off, the native of Madras, Oregon showed some magic with his glove as he stole a pair of runs from the Orioles … [Read more...] about Performance Of The Week 7/27-8/2

Performance Of The Week 7/20-7/26

July 27, 2009 by Paul Gotham 6 Comments

It's not every day that perfection pays a visit to the sports world. Before Thursday, only seventeen pitchers, in the history of Major League Baseball, retired all 27 batters faced  in a game. Mark Buehrle made it 18. In so doing, the southpaw rubs elbows with some elite company. Buehrle held Tampa Bay without any baserunners while striking out six.  The native of St. … [Read more...] about Performance Of The Week 7/20-7/26
