CLIFTON SPRINGS, NY— Midlakes football forced eight turnovers and shut out Waterloo in their Homecoming game winning 19-0. This is the second time the Midlakes defense has shutout a team in two weeks.
Gavin Jones scored the first touchdown of the game on a 16-yard designed run. Jones led on the ground with six rushes for 46 yards. Through the air, he went 6-of-10 with 11 passing yards.
The defense dominated the line of scrimmage with seven tackles for loss, and one sack and pressured the quarterback constantly. Midlakes defensive backs locked down Waterloo through the air forcing seven interceptions and a pick six. Jorge Garcia was responsible for two interceptions. Garcia also had a fumble recovery and two defensive touchdowns.
Corbin Hughes and Jones each picked off Waterloo twice. Hughes also ended with one tackle for loss. Marcus Tookes also added an interception for Midlakes. John Wassouf contributed with a forced fumble.
James Blair was efficient on the ground rushing for 28 yards on only two carries. Blair also had a tackle for loss on the day.
Marcus Tookes led in receiving with two receptions for 12 yards, both coming in the second half. Justin Mercado added 14 rushing yards on six carries and had one catch for eight yards.
Waterloo stood strong on defense forcing four turnovers. Leeland Laursen led the defense forcing two fumbles and recovering one.
Midlakes will take on Lyons/Sodus (3-1) next Friday at 7 p.m. and will try to remain undefeated in a tough matchup.
