Emma Geary and Kaelyn Montague scored a goal apiece to lead Avon in non-league action. Montague converted a penalty kick to snap a scoreless tie in the 47th minute. Geary found the back of the net 19 minutes later with an assist from Elena Giorgis. Alaney Griffiths made three saves for the shutout. Avon finished with a 17-3 advantage in shots on target.
“It was a tough game to play on back-to-back nights,” Avon head coach Jo Mullen said via text message. “They (Bishop Kearney) brought a physical game, and for stretches we turned away from who we are offensively. It was a great challenge for us to work through an underwhelming performance and flip the script in the second half. The net felt like a shoebox all night, but we stayed committed to letting the game come to us. The chances piled up, and we trusted that the goals would eventually come.
“Good teams find ways to win on their bad days, and I’m proud of our steadfastness. We didn’t panic. We stayed with it, trusted our game, and found a way.”

Maggie McGarvey added her own score with an assist from Mia Marucci. Avery Hoffman nabbed three saves in goal for a clean sheet, while Kelsey Tandle handled one save.
