Leading by a run entering the top of the sixth inning, Cottreall-Warner Post 942 (16-5) plated eight runners in the frame to secure a 15-6 win over Greece Post 468 on Wednesday night, clinching the best-of-three championship series two games to one to take home its second straight American Legion NY District 7 title. Tyler Estelle helped lead the offense, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI. He also walked twice and crossed home plate twice.
Entering the sixth with a 6-5 lead, Sam Roselli got the scoring started hitting into a fielder’s choice that scored Nick Rene. Conor Forkey got hit by a pitch to score Estelle before Garrett McNeil plated a pair on a two-RBI single. Parker Carley and Estelle each added RBI singles afterwards before Sam Nick stamped the inning with a two-RBI double to make it 14-5 Cottreall-Warner.

The third inning was also a big one for Cottreall-Warner. Trailing 2-1, Max Caron singled and scored Conor Forkey before Estelle jacked a grand slam over the center-field fence to give the Canal Dogs a 6-2 lead.
Tyler Gordner earned the win on the rubber. He tossed two and a third innings and struck out three. Connor Smith and Drew Gruba each worked in relief, with Smith registering three strikeouts over two and two third innings and Gruba closing the game with two innings.
Nick and Caron each doubled, singled, scored, and had two RBI. Nick walked twice while Caron walked once. Rene singled twice, walked, and scored three times. Forkey singled, scored twice, and plated a runner. McNeil scored twice in addition to his two-RBI single. Parker Carley paired a single with an RBI and crossed home plate. Brady Sayers, Roselli, and Shutts each scored.
For Greece Post, Wesley Sturrup ended 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI, and three runs. Jake Weber singled twice, walked twice, and scored. Kyle Markham and Finn Davies each plated a runner and had a base hit, with Weber also drawing a pair of walks. Quinn Hanrahan walked and came around to score. Cam Barbulean knocked in a run. Nate Brinza drew two walks. Evan Fitzpatrick scored.
On the rubber, Max Sheehan got the start and tossed an inning and a third. Eli Charatz pitched the next three and two third innings and registered two strikeouts. Noah Deitz and Davies each threw an inning, with Deitz adding a strikeout.
Cottreall-Warner took Game 1 on Monday with a 5-2 win. Earlier on Wednesday, Greece Post cruised to a 10-0 victory to force a winner-take-all game three. Noah Deitz finished 2-for-4 in that game with a home run, two RBI, a single, and a run. Nate Brinza ended 2-for-3 with three RBI, a home run, and two runs. Parker Goodness also homered, with two RBI and a scored run. Jake Weber went the distance on the mound with nine strikeouts with only one hit allowed. He finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a single, and two RBI.
Both teams will advance to the American Legion NY state tournament, starting this upcoming Saturday. All games will take place at Penfield High School.
