Five garner Monroe County Baseball Player of the Year Honors

Sam Roselli paced Fairport to an undefeated season and the Division I title. Max Seaver and Webster Thomas grabbed the top seed in AA1 while Bobby Rule Jr. and Churchville-Chili went back-to-back as Division II champions. Cole Harris led Canandaigua to its first sectional title since 2019 and Ethan Postle helped Pittsford Mendon go undefeated in Division IV while notching the first seed in AA2. Monroe County coaches honored the five student-athletes with top postseason awards.

Roselli earned the Monroe County Division I Player of the Year, posting a 7-1 record with a .80 ERA over 43.2 innings pitched on the mound. Over the season, the senior fanned 54 batters while allowing only 18 hits, five earned runs and a batting average against (BAA) of .125. A couple of Roselli’s best games on the mound this year include a complete game shutout of one-hit ball with eight strikeouts in an 8-0 victory over Victor on April 21 and a no hitter with 12 strikeouts against Webster Schroeder on April 27. At the plate, the senior stayed hot with 26 hits and a batting average of .371. Roselli posted four homeruns, four triples and five doubles along with 20 RBI and 15 runs for a .463 OBP. The senior was walked nine times with eight stolen bases as well.

Joining Roselli on the Monroe County Division I First Team include teammates Jon Roessel and Garrett McNeil. Zach Worrall, Matt Lanning and Luke Staser were all recognized out of Victor while Kallin Whelehan and Jack Lander were honored from Hilton. Ryan Ritchlin and Matt Scibienski represent Penfield on the first team while Dylan Dumont (Webster Schroeder) and Matt Turner (Rush-Herietta) both earned nods as well.

Fairport’s Kieran Murphy was named Division I Coach of the Year.

Seaver and Rule shared the honor of Monroe County Division II Player of the Year. Seaver went 7-1 over 59 innings with a 0.71 ERA for Webster Thomas as the Titans earned the top seed in Class AA1 with a 15-5 record. The junior notched 62 strikeouts with a .167 BAA and a .627 WHIP while allowing only two walks all year. Seaver hurled four complete game shutouts this season, setting the single-season record for Thomas. In his sophomore season, Seaver also garnered four complete game shutouts and is now on the Section V Baseball Leaderboard for shutouts in a season.

Rule was a dual threat for Churchville-Chili with a 7-1 record and a save over 46.1 innings pitched along with a .351 batting average. The senior fanned 45 batters and allowed only seven earned runs, posting a 1.058 ERA, breaking a program record held since 1976. On the offensive side, the senior also garnered a .479 OBP along with 17 RBI and 22 runs. During the season, Rule Jr tied the school record for most RBI in a game with five against Irondequoit and most runs in a game with four versus Spencerport. The senior had his best game of the season against Irondequoit, tossing 5.2 innings of one-hit ball while going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and five RBI.

Joining Seaver and Rule on the Monroe County Division II First Team include teammates Tyler Estelle and Sean Griffin out of Thomas along with Jordan Wilson and Josh Miner from Churchville-Chili. Landon Bryan, Alex McLaughlin and Max Spitz represent Irondequoit on the first team while Max Sheehan (Brighton) rounds out the lineup.

Churchville-Chili’s Bob Rule Sr. earned the honor of Division II Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Harris was rewarded with Monroe County Division III Player of the Year, posting a .465 AVG, .597 OBP, a 1.368 OPS and a .789 slugging percentage. The junior collected 33 hits including two doubles, two triples and four home runs for 34 RBI and 24 runs. Harris also walked 21 times and stole three bases while only striking out nine times all season. The highlight of the year for the junior came in the regional qualifier where despite the loss, Harris hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to give Canandaigua a one-run lead. On the mound, the junior pitched 26.1 innings, garnering 34 strikeouts and a 2.66 ERA. Harris did it as a starter and a reliever, notching two wins and two saves.

Joining Harris on the Monroe County Division III First Team includes fellow Grey Wolf Tyler Christopher along with Jaylen Givens, Nicolas DiFrancesca and Andrew McManus out of Gates Chili. Aaden Bishop and Ryder Froman were recognized from Eastridge while Brady Colbert and Christopher Walter got the nod out of Greece Arcadia. Trace Brewer represents Greece Athena to round out the squad.

Gates Chili’s Dean Dingee was named Division III Coach of the Year.

Postle had a season full of accolades to garner the Monroe County Division IV Player of the Year. Over the year, the senior passed the career milestone of 150 career strikeouts. Postle finished the season with an 8-1 record on the mound with a save over 42.2 innings pitched, posting a 0.82 ERA and a .104 OBA with 88 strikeouts. Some of the senior’s best games include a career-high 15 strikeout win over Canandaigua in six innings, a perfect game with 13 strikeouts over five innings against Brockport and fanning at least six batters in every start this season. Postle garnered the most strikeouts in AA (10th Section V; 25th in NYS), second in wins in AA (9th in NYS) and third in Section V with ERA (8th in AA). On his career, Postle ends with 99 innings pitched, a 14-3 all-time record, 175 strikeouts, a 1.64 ERA, one save, 60 hits allowed, and the winning pitcher of the NYS Championship game in 2025.

Joining Postle on the Monroe County Division IV First Team include teammates Noah Sansone and JoJo Martin while cross-town rivals Chase Dermody, Sam Byrne and Aidan Kress represent Pittsford Sutherland. Owen Kearney and Jake Weber got the nod out of Honeoye Falls-Lima while Mason Standish and Ty Sherman were recognized from Brockport. Tyler Ashton (Greece Olympia/Odyssey) and Maggio Buchholz (Batavia) round out the squad.

Pittsford Mendon’s Shawn Cavney earned the Division IV Coach of the Year honors after winning it in Division III last year.
