Weekend American Legion Wrap: Big games from Sheible and Bryan give Chili Post doubleheader sweep; Bates tosses complete game shutout for Ferris Goodridge Post

FRIDAY

BRAMAN POST 1229 (4-1) 5
JAMES COOKE POST 931 (2-1) 4

Trailing 4-3 in the top of the seventh, home runs from Joey Bianchi (2-for-3, BB) and Elliot Johnson (2-4) gave Braman Post the lead and eventual win. Braman scored two runs in the first on two errors. After James Cooke rallied to take the lead in the fourth, Braman tied the game at three in the fifth on an RBI single from Brady Wadsworth. Dominic Denecke allowed three earned runs in his six innings for Braman Post, fanning six. Landen Belliard (1-3, BB, 2 R, RBI) closed out the win on the mound. Ethan Light tripled and scored in the win. Matt Scibienski also had a single. Brayden Ricigliano led the James Cooke bats, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Grady Rogers, Zach Craib and Robbie Langdon also drove in a run each. Matthew Lanning and Peyton Ridley both singled and scored. Nick Kriegelstein also had a base hit.

Ryan Lewin went 3-for-4 including an RBI single in the fourth when Ely Fagan scored three times to take a 7-1 lead. Lewin drove in Landon Brown with a one-out single, and scored on a doubled off the bat of Mitchell Nieves. Austin Yageric capped the inning with a run-scoring base hit of his own. Lewin finished with three RBI in the win. Caiden Richards walked and scored twice in the win. Gio Stewart had a multi-RBI day, scoring two with a seventh-inning single. Brown, Yageric and Patrick Newcomer each scored two runs for Ely Fagan. Dylan Savage walked twice and crossed home once. Derek VanAuker allowed just one run in his complete game for Ely Fagan on four hits and two walks, striking out six. Josiah Martin led the Rayson Miller bats, going 2-for-4 with a double. Jack Edelstein also reached base twice with a single and a walk, scoring the lone run for Rayson Miller. Josh Pearson added a base hit.

COTTREALL-WARNER POST 942 (2-0) 10
FERRIS GOODRIDGE POST 330 (1-3) 6

Garrett McNeil went 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI to lead Cottreall-Warner Post. C-W jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first three innings. Nick Rene went 2-for-4 with a walk, three runs scored and an RBI. Tyler Estelle and Conor Forkey scored two runs each. Max Seaver tossed two scoreless innings to start on the mound for C-W. Tyler Gordner then came in for five innings in relief, allowing no earned runs, striking out one. Nick DiFrancesca led the Ferris Goodridge bats, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Jack Lander also reached base twice on a single and a walk, scoring a run and driving one in too. Connor Newton tossed 5.2 innings in relief, allowing just one earned run, fanning two.

SATURDAY

IRONDEQUOIT POST 134 (1-3) 1
CHILI POST 1830 (1-0) 4

Will Sheible faced two batters over the minimum in a five-inning complete game for Chili Post, allowing one run on two hits, walking none and fanning six in his five innings of work. Sheible retired the first nine batters he faced before giving up a leadoff single in the fourth. Quintyn Whipple got Chili on the board in the second inning with an RBI triple, driving in Aaron Reina and Jamie Derleth. Chili added two more runs in the third as Reina drove in Landon Bryan with an RBI triple of his own before scoring later in the inning on a dropped third strike. Xavier Hughey and Augie Valentini were the lone two baserunners for Irondequoit as they led off the fourth inning with back-to-back singles. Hughey eventually came around to score on an RBI groundout from Declan Caron.

CHILI POST 1830 (2-0) 10
IRONDEQUOIT POST 134 (1-4) 3

Landon Bryan went 2-for-3 with a run scored and four RBI to lead Chili Post the doubleheader sweep. Bryan gave Chili a 3-0 lead three batters into the game with a three-run homer. After Irondequoit cut the deficit to one, Bryan picked up his fourth RBI of the game on a single in the third. Chili Post added two more runs in the fourth on a wild pitch, scoring Jaylen Givens, and an error, plating Andrew McManus. Chili then put a four-spot on the board in the fifth, scoring a run each on a sacrifice fly from Jamie Derleth and a single from Lucas Karelus before Bruce Hanna brought two more home with a double. Givens earned the win on the mound for Chili allowing three runs, two of which were earned, in his five innings of work, striking out three. Aaron Reina (2-3, R) and Quintyn Whipple (2-3, R) joined Bryan with multi-hit efforts for Chili. Augie Valentini went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for Irondequoit. Eamon Smith and Tommy VanGorder also drove in a run each. Aaden Bishop reached base in all three of his plate appearances with a hit and two walks, scoring a run. Xavier Hughey reached twice with a hit and a walk, scoring once.

SUNDAY

FERRIS GOODRIDGE POST 330 (2-3) 1
RAYSON MILLER POST 899 (0-6) 0

Collin Bates scattered two hits and a walk in his complete game shutout for Ferris Goodridge Post, striking out eight. Bates retired eight of the first nine batters he faced. Connor Newton plated the lone run of the game for either team in the fourth inning on a double, scoring Sam Hopkins. Jack Lander also reached base twice for Ferris Goodridge with a single and a walk. Jack Edelstein and Preston Granger picked up the hits for Rayson Miller, both singles. Owen Kearney also tossed a complete game, allowing one run on three hits and a walk, fanning eight.

COTTREALL-WARNER POST 942 (2-1) 1
GREECE POST 468 (3-0) 2

Parker Goodness went 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI to lead Greece Post. After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Wesley Sturrup stole home in the second to tie the game at one. The score stayed tied at one until the bottom of the seventh when Goodness scored the winning run on a passed ball. Nathan Brinza also reached base twice for the 468 with a single and a walk. Cam Barbulean allowed an unearned run in his six innings for Greece Post, striking out seven. Jake Weber tossed a scoreless inning in relief, fanning two. Sam Nick led the C-W bats, going 3-for-3 with a run scored. Henry Shutts also reached base twice, going 2-for-3 with two doubles. Dylan Dumont allowed one run on three hits on the mound for C-W, striking out five.

FERRIS GOODRIDGE POST 330 (3-3) 9

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Ferris Goodridge Post put a seven spot on the board on six singles and two walks en route to the win. Brayden Scaccia had the lone multi-hit game for Ferris Goodridge, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Tyler Newton notched a game-high two RBI, capping off that seven-run fourth inning with a two-run single. Jack Lander reached base twice on two walks, scoring a run and driving one in. Nick DiFrancesca reached base three times with a single and two walks, scoring two runs. Zack Mattice allowed two runs in his 5.2 innings for Ferris Goodridge, striking out seven. Jameson Hummel led the Rayson Miller bats, going 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Nathan Markevicz (2-2) and Josh Pearson (2-4) also had multi-hit efforts for Rayson Miller. Nate Bondi reached base twice with a double and a walk, scoring a run and picking up an RBI.
