Weekend American Legion Wrap: Greece Post dominates doubleheader; Denecke twirls complete game shutout, Murray comes up clutch for Braman Post in doubleheader sweep

Matt Scibienski went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI to lift Braman Post. Braman Post took a 2-0 first inning lead on an error and an RBI double from Jacob Murray (2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI). Kayden Yapjoco (1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) added another run for Braman in the top of the third on a single that drove in Joey Bianchi who led off the inning with a double. With two runners in scoring position and two outs in the bottom of the inning, Gavin Zimmer (2-3, 2 RBI) brought the game to within a run with a two-run single for Ferris Goodridge Post. Scibienski added two insurance runs in the fourth on an inside-the-park home run. Brady Wadsworth and Brady Beganny drove in a run each in the top of the fifth to bring the Braman lead to five runs. Kevin Donalty got the win on the mound for Braman Post, allowing two earned runs in five innings, striking out three. Ryan Rebmann tossed two scoreless innings in relief. Andrew Lamberton (2-3) joined Zimmer as the second Ferris Goodridge Post batter with a multi-hit effort. Zack Mattice twirled 2.1 hitless, scoreless innings in relief for Ferris Goodridge Post.

Ryan Dejoy drove in a game-high four RBI, going 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Greece Post. Wesley Sturrup (1-3, 3 RBI) got the scoring started in the first inning, driving in Logan DeMember (3-3, BB, 3 R) on a sacrifice fly. A single from Kyle Markham (1-1, 3 R, RBI, 2 BB) and a triple from Dejoy later in the inning plated a run each. Greece Post put up four runs in the third and fourth innings, highlighted by a two-run triple from Quinn Hanrahan in the third, and a two-run double from Dejoy in the fourth. Sturrup walked it off in the bottom of the fifth, driving in two with a triple. Parker Goodness (3) and Nathan Brinza (2) also scored multiple runs for Greece Post. Cam Barbulean and Jake Weber tossed two scoreless innings each for Greece Post on the mound. Oliver Wright led the Ely Fagan Post bats, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Nathan Brinza went 2-for-3 with a home run to give Greece Post the doubleheader sweep. Aiden Kress (1-2, BB, 2 R, RBI) opened the scoring for Greece Post in the top of the second, leading off the inning with a solo shot. An RBI single from Sturrup in the fifth and a solo homer from Brinza in the sixth gave Greece a 3-0 lead. They scored an additional run in the sixth on an error. Ethan Postle tossed four scoreless innings on the mound for the 468, fanning six. Finn Davies and Logan DeMember combined for three more scoreless innings in relief. Derek VanAuker went the full seven innings for Ely Fagan Post, allowing two earned runs and striking out seven.

SUNDAY

RAYSON MILLER POST 899 (0-1) 0
BRAMAN POST 1229 (2-0) 6

Dominic Denecke faced just four batters over the minimum in his complete game shutout to lift Braman Post. Matt Scibienski (1-3, BB, 2 R) got Braman Post on the board in the first inning, leading off with a walk before scoring on an error. The score remained at 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth where Brady Wadsworth (2-3, R, 2 RBI) drove in two insurance runs on a single. Joey Bianchi tacked on two more runs for Braman in the fifth on a double. Brady Beganny (2-3, R, RBI) drove in the sixth Braman Post run in the sixth on a single. Josh Pearson allowed just one earned run in his five innings on the mound for Rayson Miller Post, striking out five. Tyler Potter led the Rayson Miller bats, reaching base in all three of his plate appearances with a single and two walks. Cal Grasley also reached base twice with a single and a walk.

Jacob Murray went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a two-run go-ahead double to give Braman Post the doubleheader sweep. Tyler Potter got the scoring started for Rayson Miller Post in the bottom of the first. Josiah Martin got himself in scoring position by walking and stealing second before Potter drove him in on a single. Rayson Miller added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth on four hits and two walks punctuated by an RBI double from Dell Nelson, an RBI triple from Jack Edelstein and an RBI single from Preston Granger (2-2, R, RBI). Braman Post got three runs back in the top of the fifth thanks to an RBI single from Matt Scibienski (2-4, 2 R, RBI), a run scoring passed ball and an RBI groundout from Landen Belliard, who also threw three innings, giving up one run in relief. Trailing 5-3 in the top of the seventh and down to their final out, Braman Post scored a run on an error before Murray put them in the lead with a two-run double, scoring Joey Bianchi (2-4, R) and Kayden Yapjoco to make the score 6-5. Brady Wadsworth (2-3, BB, RBI) then scored Murray on an RBI single, giving Braman Post a two-run lead. Josh Pearson (2-2, 2 BB, 2 R, RBI) brought Rayson Miller Post within a run in the bottom half with a solo shot, but they could not complete the comeback.
