Constantino Financial State Quarterfinal Preview: Kendall, Beaver River to fight in Class C

Two teams will meet Saturday only having allowed a combined total of six runs over their past four games.

Kendall has won 10 straight while Beaver River has won nine straight. Section V and Section III clash this weekend for a spot in the NYS Class C semifinals. Here’s the breakdown:

KENDALL EAGLES (21-2/Genesee County I/No. 2 NYSSWA Class C)
vs.
BEAVER RIVER BEAVERS (15-7/Frontier A/No. 10 NYSSWA Class C)

How they arrived here: Kendall started its run with an 11-0 win over Byron-Bergen and then defeated Perry 7-0 in the Class C2 semifinals. In the championship, the Eagles took down Genesee Valley-Belfast by a score of 3-1 to win a Section V title. The Eagles beat Gananda 6-3 in the regional qualifier game to book a spot in the sub-regional. There, Kendall won 8-0 over Gowanda (VI). Beaver River won against Sandy Creek (8-0), Onondaga (5-1), and West Canada Valley (9-0) to win a sectional title and then beat Charles O. Dickerson 14-1 to clinch a spot in the state quarterfinals.

Scoring offense: Kendall (9.6 RPG), Beaver River (5.5 RPG)

Scoring defense: Kendall (1.6 RPG), Beaver River (2.6 RPG)

Trends: Kendall is on an ten-game winning streak and has outscored its opponents 91-13 over that span. Beaver River has won nine straight games and has only given up eight runs over the win streak.

Players to watch for Kendall: Vinnie D’Agostino (Genesee County Player of the Year, threw perfect game in sectional semifinals), Jonny Conte (Genesee County All-Star), Nic Cole (Genesee County All-Star), CJ D’Agostino (Genesee County All-Star), Sammy Conte (Genesee County All-Star Honorable Mention)

Players to watch for Beaver River: Karter Kloster (.446 BA, 25 H, 16 XBH, one HR, 14 RBI, 30 R, 0.56 ERA, 49.2 IP, 6-0 record, 69 Ks), Kayne Lyndaker (.347 BA, 25 H, six 2B, 17 RBI, 14 R), Ayshur Gerow (.338 BA, 22 H, 15 RBI, four R, 35.0 IP, 4-2 record, 2.20 ERA, 54 Ks), Cade Getman (.320 BA, 16 H, two 2B, seven RBI, six R, 36/1 IP, 3-3 record, 2.70 ERA, 54Ks), Austin Sauer (.217 BA, 13 H, two 2B, 12 RBI, eight R)

Coaches: Tige Noni (Kendall), Michael Kogut (Beaver River)

History 101: Kendall has a chance to reach the state semifinals for the first time since 1999. The Beavers are in pursuit of their first ever state title.

What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Class C semifinals against the winner of Ticonderoga (VII) and Tupper Lake (X).
